Man Utd Land Record Betway Deal Despite Premier League Betting Ban

Manchester United have named Betway as their principal partner and exclusive global betting partner in a multi-year deal that starts with the 2026/27 season, the club confirmed

The agreement places the Betway logo on the training kits of United's men's and women's teams and stands as Super Group's biggest football partnership to date.

What the Betway Deal Includes

For the many UK readers who follow the club and use betting sites, the arrangement marks one of the largest commercial tie-ups in the current sponsorship market.

Manchester United join a Betway portfolio that already runs across top-flight football, Formula 1, international rugby union, cricket, basketball and tennis.

The deal covers more than kit branding. Betway will feature prominently on matchdays at Old Trafford and at the Progress with Unity Stadium, the home of United's women's team, and supporters will get access to exclusive competitions and what the club described as once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Super Group set out the terms in its partnership announcement on August 4, 2026.

Africa Is the Real Target Market

Neal Menashe, chief executive officer of Super Group, set out the commercial logic behind the deal.

"We are thrilled that our Betway brand will be the Principal Partner and Exclusive Global Betting Partner of one of the world's biggest football clubs. Manchester United's global reach, particularly with their massive fanbase across Africa, aligns perfectly with our key markets," he said.

Menashe pointed to the reach of English football as the draw.

"The Premier League is the world's most-watched domestic football competition and provides a powerful platform to connect with fans globally. We're excited to see the Betway brand showcased at Old Trafford, and beyond, as part of our ongoing presence in English football's top-flight," he added.

That reference to Africa is the tell in the deal. Menashe named the continent, not the United Kingdom, as the fit with Super Group's key markets, where Betway is one of the more established operators.

For a company whose growth is weighted toward African territories, a globally televised English club works as a marketing gateway into those markets rather than a UK-facing branding exercise. It is a sign of how Premier League shirt and kit space is increasingly bought to sell operators to audiences far from England.

Integrity Training for Players Who Cannot Bet

There is a second detail that sets the deal apart from a standard branding buy. Super Group said the partnership will fund betting-integrity and responsible-gambling training for United's players and staff, not only for fans.

That runs alongside the Football Association's rules, which prohibit players and club staff from betting on football anywhere in the world.

A betting operator paying to educate players who are themselves banned from betting on the sport is an unusual feature to attach to a kit sponsorship.

New Rules for Gambling Sponsors

Marc Armstrong, chief business officer at Manchester United, framed the agreement as proof of the club's pulling power with sponsors.

"We are delighted to welcome Betway as our Principal Partner. The scale of our exciting new partnership reflects our growth strategy, the enduring global strength and appeal of Manchester United, and our ability to attract leading brands that want to engage with our vast worldwide fanbase," he said.

The structure of the deal reflects a tighter set of rules for gambling brands in English football. Premier League clubs agreed in April 2023 to withdraw gambling sponsors from the front of matchday shirts from the 2026/27 season, so operators now take advantage of the loophole and build partnerships around training kit, stadium and digital branding rather than the shirt front.

Betway's United deal fits that pattern.

Super Group is one of the larger operators active in the UK market, where any licensed brand must meet the safer gambling standards set by the Gambling Commission.
