Betway Launches In Alberta's Regulated iGaming Market

Betway Canada is now listed as a registered operator on the Alberta iGaming Corporation's (AiGC) directory of regulated sites, offering both its sportsbook and online casino products to players in the province. Golden Tiger Casino, operated by Apollo Entertainment, was added to the same list on the same day.

The AiGC's registered-sites directory confirms Betway and Golden Tiger Casino as live, regulated platforms, joining a market that has grown to more than 30 active operators since Alberta's regulated iGaming system launched on July 13, 2026.

A Deliberate Delay

Betway's parent company, Super Group, had publicly flagged in August that it intended to use the extra time available to grey-market operators before fully transitioning. The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) initially required unregulated operators to stop all grey-market activity on July 13.

That was the same day the regulated market opened, but allowed a case-by-case extension of up to three months for operators with a credible compliance path. That extension pushed the effective deadline for qualifying operators to October 13.

Super Group chief executive Neal Menashe said the company wanted the additional weeks to move its existing Betway customer base into the regulated product without disrupting the experience that had kept players engaged. Betway has already gone through a similar shift from grey-market to regulated operation in Ontario, giving the company a template to follow in Alberta.

Why The Timing Matters

Before July, Albertans betting online had two realistic options: the government-run PlayAlberta site, or an offshore sportsbook and casino operating without local oversight.

Alberta's regulated launch was designed to bring that offshore activity into a licensed, taxed and monitored framework rather than allow it to continue running alongside the single state-run platform.

Super Group's Alberta rollout now covers five licensed brands under the AGLC framework: Betway, Spin Casino, Jackpot City, Royal Vegas and Ruby Fortune.

That list is one platform short of an earlier six-brand plan, after Grizzly's Quest was removed from AGLC's list of registrants in June without an official explanation given.

Impressive Operators List

Betway's addition brings the Alberta market closer to full strength. More than 50 platforms began registering for an AGLC licence in January 2026, with sites allowed to begin pre-registering customers from February, ahead of the market's formal July opening. Betway now joins an operator list that already includes FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, bet365 and Caesars.

Operators have moved at different speeds through the same transition window. Bally's launched Bally Bet and Monopoly Casino in Alberta on August 4, just over three weeks after the market's formal opening, while Betway waited until late September to confirm its listing on the AiGC's registry.

The AiGC has also clarified what pre-launch operators can and cannot do while they wait out an extension: "coming soon" style pre-registration advertising is permitted provided it includes a responsible-gambling message directing players to 211 Alberta for support, while bonus or credit-based advertising remains barred outside an operator's own site and direct marketing channels.

What It Means For Alberta Bettors

Existing Betway and Spin Casino customers in Alberta have been able to keep playing on the operators' offshore-licensed products right up until the formal cutoff.

With Betway now confirmed on the AiGC's registered list, those players can move to the regulated version of the brand's online casino product, which carries Alberta-specific consumer protections that the offshore version did not.

The remaining Super Group brands due to transition under the same October 13 window will be the next names to watch on the AiGC's registry.
