Migration of Barstool Sportsbook & Casino to Penn Entertainment Complete

Penn Entertainment Inc. announced what’s called the largest scale technology migration of its kind in the iGaming industry to date – the release of a new and improved Barstool Sportsbook & Casino after moving to the company’s proprietary online gaming tech platform.

“Migrating onto our proprietary technology platform and introducing a fully upgraded Barstool Sportsbook is a milestone achievement,” said Jay Snowden, CEO and president of Penn Entertainment. “Having full control of our product and roadmap will lead to improved operational efficiency and the ability to quickly introduce new features, bespoke promotions and wagering markets.”

Penn Entertainment Continues to Grow

Penn provides integrated entertainment, sports content and casino gaming experiences, operates 43 properties in 20 states, as well as online sports betting in 17 jurisdictions, and iCasino in five jurisdictions.

Barstool Sportsbook operates in 16 U.S. jurisdictions. Penn also owns and operates theScore Bet in Ontario, which migrated to the same tech platform in July 2022.

The migration by Barstool Sportsbook & Casino to Penn’s tech stack in the U.S. brings all components of its online gaming operation in all the jurisdictions in-house, enhancing Barstool’s product offering. The migration took place during the MLB All-Star Break.

In the end, PENN’s objective is technology independence. Snowden talked about this last summer during the launch in Canada, touching on increased in-game wagering options, event props and an expanded library of markets that came with the technology. The vertically integrated infrastructure allows for greater personalization and media/betting integration capabilities, benefitting end users.

Barstool Sportsbook has Upgraded Navigation and Search

A statement from Penn said, “The vertically integrated technology stack increases platform stability and is designed to be easily scalable to expand into new markets and meet evolving regulatory requirements.”

The Barstool Sportsbook has been upgraded to include streamlined navigation and search capabilities, more wagering markets, including expanded player props and in-game betting, greater personalization capabilities and faster load times, deposits and withdrawals, improved cash out availability and deeper integrations with theScore media app, allowing users to build and track their bet slips within theScore.

“A technology migration of this scale requires an enormous amount of coordination and planning, and I’m extremely proud of our Interactive team who stepped up to the challenge to execute this complex project on time and with minimal disruption to customers,” said Benjie Levy, head of Penn Interactive and president and COO, theScore, in a statement. “Deploying our technology infrastructure puts our experienced in-house team, who built the platform from the ground up, in full control of the end-to-end customer journey and all product development. With this proven technology powering a significantly enhanced Barstool Sportsbook, we are primed to deliver a world-class online sportsbook and casino experience to customers in the U.S.”
