Our BetMGM Poker Review

Since going live in 2017, BetMGM Poker has successfully launched in multiple American states. Now, it's moving up north to take on the Canada online poker market. Specifically, BetMGM is launching in the newly regulated Ontario market.

With several online poker rooms slated to go live, Ontario will feature heavy competition for its large player pool. The following reviews covers where BetMGM fits into this mix, along with its strengths and weaknesses.

BetMGM Poker in Ontario

BetMGM Poker is fully legal in this province and holds licensing with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (ALGO). It maintains the ALGO license through its parent company, MGM Resorts International (in partnership with Entain).

BetMGM has been quiet about its prospects in the Ontario online poker industry. It hasn't given a potential launch date nor how it expects to perform in the Loyalist Province. Then again, many license holders are focusing on their Ontario online casinos and betting sites first.

The ON mobile poker market officially goes live on April 4, 2022. Licensed operators can begin offering real money poker games at this point. We're not entirely sure if BetMGM Poker will launch right away, nor any other Ontario poker site for that matter. However, we predict that it'll go live sometime in 2022.

BetMGM Poker Pros and Cons

Much like the launch date, the BetMGM poker bonus is also up in the air. We don't know what, if any, bonus will be available to Ontarians until the actual launch. A potential welcome bonus could include a deposit bonus, tickets for freerolls, real-money tournament tickets. Players might even enjoy a no deposit bonus, which is available after registration.

Looking at other markets, BetMGM online poker offers a deposit bonus (first deposit only), Pick-a-Card and Regulars Rewards. Pick-a-Card sees you choose a card in hopes of winning cash bonuses. Regards Rewards gives out rewards to players who become virtual regulars in the BetMGM online poker room.

Of course, everything from the deposit bonus to regulars' free money comes with terms and conditions attached. Poker bonus wagering requirements typically involve earning so many rewards points through real money games. The bonus releases in increments as you continue earning points while playing poker.

BetMGM Loyalty Program

The BetMGM Rewards program covers all of this site's online gambling verticals. This means you can earn Rewards Points through casino games, poker and sports betting in Ontario. BetMGM runs on the partypoker software client. Partypoker has long been one of the biggest and most-successful online poker networks. Owned by Entain, it not only runs its own site but also provides online poker software for affiliated partners.

The BetMGM software runs smoothly and reliably. We also like the black-and-gold colour scheme, which is sleek and non-distracting. The BetMGM Poker client is available for desktop (PC/Mac), mobile instant play and app (Android/iOS) users.

BetMGM Poker App - Best Features

As mentioned above, you can enjoy the BetMGM online poker site through instant mobile play or an app. We recommend downloading the app because of the multiple BetMGM Poker features you'll enjoy. The current features include:

• Lobby Data and Filters - Arrange lobby settings to display the game types you want.
• My Tourneys - Save your favourite tournament types in a handy spot.
• Poker HUD (coming soon?) - Okay, so the partypoker US network hasn't officially launched a Heads-Up Display. But it hinted at doing so soon and would likely supply the HUD to BetMGM as well HUDs display stats and tendencies on opponents and are great for online poker strategy.

BetMGM Poker Games

This site offers a decent mixture of online poker games. Free tables, real money cash games, sit & go's, multi-table tournaments and a fast-fold variant are available here. The latter automatically moves you to a new table after your action in a hand is complete.

Online Poker Game Variations

BetMGM offers a limited selection of variations, with Texas hold'em poker, Pot Limit Omaha, Omaha poker and Stud. These poker variants are enough for the average player, but they won't impress seasoned grinders. Ideally, BetMGM Poker would add another variation or two, such as 2-7 Draw, 8-Game, HORSE or Short Deck.

BetMGM Poker Selection

This online poker operator offers all the main types of poker you'd expect from a big name. As covered below, you can look forward to playing cash games, multi-table tourneys, Sit & Go's and series here.

Cash Games

Judging from other markets, the BetMGM cash game scene revolves around low-stakes no-limit Texas hold'em games. You should find some decent fixed-limit hold'em and PL Omaha tables too. The $0.01/$0.2 to $1/$2 draw a sizable number of poker players. Of course, this is good news if you're a low roller who's just having fun. However, it won't get you excited if you're a mid- or high-stakes player.

BetMGM also offers Fast Forward, which is a fast-fold poker variant. It takes you to a new table when your hand action is finished so you can continuously play. The Fast Forward pool can get big, especially on the weekends. However, this is another low-stakes affair with $0.01/$0.02 to $0.25/$0.50 tables.

Multi-Table Tournaments

MTTs are the highlight of BetMGM's poker selection. They include the Daily $10k, Mega Tuesday, Sunday $40k and other Sunday Major events. Regarding the Sunday $40k, you can either pay the $215 buy-in or enter satellites as low as $1. The latter is perfect when you can't afford big tournament fees yet still want to chase the $10k top prize.

Sit & Gos

You'll find heads-up, six-max and full-ring SNGs at BetMGM. Buy-ins range from $1 to $500, which is impressive considering the rather limited cash game stakes. BetMGM also features "SPINS," which are lottery-style SNGs. SPINS can offer a prize multiplier worth 10,000x the buy-in, thus making them extremely popular.

Heads Up

The heads-up scene isn't too popular at BetMGM. Some players spend time in the HU cash games and SNGs, but the traffic isn't consistent enough to rely on.

Tournament Series

BetMGM is beginning to heat up regarding poker tournament series. For example, it ran the Michigan BetMGM Online Series in the summer of 2021, offering 10 MTTs with $275,000 guaranteed. Its poker tournaments could bet bigger and better in the larger Ontario market (pop. 14.6m).

Home Games

Home games are a popular way to play exclusively with your friends at online poker sites. BetMGM doesn't currently offer this type of poker yet, though.
