Next Liverpool Manager Odds: Who Could Replace Jurgen Klopp At Anfield?

Several big names are in the running to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager if he leaves the club this summer.
Assistant manager Pep Lijnders is the favourite with betting sites, but he could face competition from the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte.
Former players including Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso are also in the mix, giving the Liverpool board plenty of intriguing options if they bid farewell to Klopp.
It has been a difficult season for the charismatic German coach, who has often cut an exasperated figure on the touchline.
The Reds crashed out of both cup competitions early, they were thumped by Real Madrid in the Champions League and they are huge underdogs in the Premier League top four odds.
That has sent the rumour mill into overdrive, leading some commentators to speculate that Klopp will either walk away from the club or face the sack.
As such, we have rounded up the leading contenders to become the next permanent Liverpool manager and analysed their chances of landing the job.
Pep Lijnders
The highly-rated Dutch coach has served as Jurgen Klopp’s right-hand man at Liverpool since 2018, so he has long been viewed as a potential successor.
His profile soared last summer after he published a popular book called ‘Intensity: Inside Liverpool FC’.
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann accused him of giving the club’s secrets away, providing a blueprint for rivals to outgun the Reds.
However, Klopp and Lijnders both shrugged off those accusations, and the Dutchman has continued to serve as Liverpool’s assistant manager.
He may lack experience, but he knows the club inside out and he would bring continuity to proceedings, so Lijnders is the 5/2 favourite to replace Klopp.
Julian Nagelsmann
Nagelsmann is currently a free agent after Bayern Munich made the surprise decision to sack him in April.
He is just 35 years old, but he already has seven seasons in the Bundesliga under his belt, and he is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest coaches.
Nagelsmann’s managerial career began at the age of 28, when he replaced Huub Stevens in the hotseat at Hoffenheim.
Die Kraichgauer were seven points adrift of safety at the time and staring down the barrel of relegation, but he managed to keep them afloat.
He was named VDV Coach of the Season at the end of his first full campaign, which saw Hoffenheim finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
They finished third in 2018, and Nagelsmann moved to RB Leipzig the following year, where he continued to impress.
That earned him the Bayern job, and he repaid the faith by leading the club to the Bundesliga title last season.
He was sacked in April following a poor run of results, but he left with the fourth-best win percentage in the club’s history, so his reputation remains largely intact.
Nagelsmann will now need to head abroad to further his career, and competition for his signature will be fierce.
Yet the Liverpool job would be very attractive, and he is the 11/2 second favourite with football betting sites to become the Reds’ next manager.
Steven Gerrard
The former Liverpool captain was touted as a future manager of the club after leading Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.
However, Klopp was at the height of his pomp back then, so Gerrard opted to move to take over as Aston Villa manager instead.
His reputation took a battering in the Midlands, as he was sacked in October after just 11 months at the helm.
Villa have been in sensational form since Unai Emery took the reins, which has further dampened talk of Gerrard becoming the next Liverpool boss.
For that reason, he has drifted out to 10/1 with new betting sites, leaving him level with former teammate Alonso in the betting.
Xabi Alonso
Alonso was a hero to the Anfield faithful during his five years at the club, which saw him win the Champions League and the FA Cup.
The Spaniard enjoyed more success at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, before finally hanging up his boots in 2017.
He spent three years managing Real Sociedad’s B team, but he was handed the Bayer Leverkusen job last summer.
Leverkusen have been in superb form in 2023, which has burnished Alonso’s reputation as a very promising coach.
He is now firmly in the mix to land the Liverpool job, priced at 10/1.
Ange Postecoglou
The Celtic boss is priced at 14/1 to become the next permanent Liverpool manager after impressing during his time in Glasgow.
His team cruised to the Scottish Premiership title last term, and they have dominated their rivals once again this term.
Postecoglu’s reputation has naturally soared, but it is hard to see Liverpool taking a chance on a manager with no experience of Europe’s top leagues.
He spent most of his career in Australia before leaving for Japan in 2018 and then moving to Scotland in 2021, so it may be too early for him to take over at a club of Liverpool’s stature.
The Rest
Antonio Conte and Diego Simeone are both priced at 20/1 with betting apps to become the next Liverpool manager.
Conte is currently out of work after leaving Tottenham, whereas Simeone would need to be convinced to leave Atlético Madrid.
Graham Potter is 25/1, despite struggling at Chelsea, while Brendan Rodgers is 40/1 to make a surprise return to Anfield.
You can find 40/1 on another former Liverpool boss, Rafa Benitez, while Domenico Tedesco and Massimiliano Allegri are both 50/1.
Liverpool midfielder James Milner, who is two years older than Nagelsmann, is an outside contender at 50/1 too.
