World Cup 2022 Betting Tips

Ahead of the 2022 World Cup, our football betting experts have compiled a number of bets worthy of consideration.

Denmark to Win World Cup (e/w) – 33/1 with BetVictor

It’s strange that Denmark are available at much bigger betting odds than the likes of Belgium, Netherlands and Portugal. The Danes reached the semi-final stage of the delayed Euro 2020 and then breezed through qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side are now ranked 10th in the world, with Christian Eriksen back in the fold to drive the team forward. They are likely to push France all the way when it comes to landing top spot in Group D and could well go deep into the knockout rounds.

Memphis Depay to Win Golden Boot (e/w) – 25/1 with William Hill

When the draw for the 2022 World Cup group stage was made, it was clear that the Netherlands had been handed a favourable group. Hosts Qatar are the Pot 1 team in Group A, while the Dutch will also face Senegal and Ecuador, with Memphis Depay potentially able to fill his boots in these three games.

The Barcelona forward recently scored an injury-time winner against Wales in the Nations League and also found the net twice when helping his country to a 4-1 win in Belgium. A return of 42 goals in 80 international appearances is perfectly respectable and he provides clear each-way value.

Netherlands, England, Brazil and Argentina to win groups – 3/1 with Betfair

Our final World Cup tip is a group accumulator bet. We think Netherlands, England, Brazil and Argentina can all be trusted to finish top of their respective pools, with the Dutch likely to have the most comfortable route.

England should prove too strong against Wales, USA and Iran, while South American duo Brazil and Argentina both look to be in good nick for the tournament. The former should be able to edge out Switzerland and Serbia, while Argentina have Poland and Mexico for company.

Best World Cup Bets

There are dozens of World Cup betting markets available both before and during the tournament. Below are some of the most popular ways to bet on the World Cup.

Outright Winner

Many bettors will use the outright market to back a team to win the 2022 World Cup and you can either bet win-only or each-way. Each-way World Cup bets usually give you a return at half the outright odds if your team reaches the final.

This can be a fun way of having an interest throughout the tournament and some bettors will look to back more than one nation outright.

1x2 Betting

The most popular match-related betting market is 1x2, also known as full-time result. You either choose one of the teams to win their game or alternatively select the draw.

This market is always popular with those looking to place accumulator World Cup bets.

Golden Boot Winner

The best World Cup betting sites provide customers with a chance to place World Cup bets on the Golden Boot winner in Qatar.

Choose the player(s) that you think will finish as top scorer and bear in mind that lots of goals tend to be scored during the group stage, when weaker opponents are still left in the tournament.

World Cup Betting History

The past few World Cup tournaments have seen one of the favourites win, with France claiming victory at outright odds of 11/2 in 2018. However, runners-up Croatia were trading at a much bigger 33/1 and rewarded each-way backers after their run to the final.

Four years previously, a much-fancied Germany triumphed, having been sent off at 11/2. 2010 winners Spain went off at an even shorter price of 4/1.

Italy were the 2006 World Cup winners and the Azzurri were also trading among the pre-tournament favourites at betting odds of 17/2.

Brazil’s last success came in 2002, when they triumphed in Japan and South Korea. They were 8/1 on the outright market before the tournament on that occasion. Interestingly, they made heavy weather of qualifying on that occasion before rising to the fore.

The above trend means that we shouldn’t look too far away from the top of the betting market in order to find the World Cup winner, with a big gulf in quality between some of the teams in the tournament. However, there may be each-way value to be found if an unfancied side can reach the final.
