Cricket betting sites must have taken a beating from our loyal followers on Wednesday night when our India v England 1st T20I preview gave readers three winning selections for a profit of 94%!
That’s nearly doubling your money just by reading our regular cricket betting previews!
India’s win odds have understandably shortened significantly on cricket betting sites after their resounding win in the first of five T20Is, and Brendon McCullum’s attitude of going even harder in the face of defeat will make their reply to the defeat very interesting.
For that reason, we’ll continue to focus on player markets offered by one of our favourite Indian bookmakers rather than attempting to predict the winning team.
The Numbers That Matter
- India won six of their last eight home T20Is v England
- Chepauk’s IPL 2024 run rate was just 8.00rpo
- Six of the nine IPL 2024 games at Chepauk were won chasing
- Sanju Samson has 59 runs from five IPL innings in Chennai
Amazing Arshdeep to accelerate again
With his two stunning powerplay wickets in the opening game, Arshdeep Singh overtook Yuzvendra Chahal’s tally of 96 T20I wickets and now has his eyes set on becoming the first Indian bowler to collect 100 scalps in the T20I format.
By removing England openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett, he exceeded the figures of 2-18 that he took against England in Southampton on his T20I debut.
He needs three to get there, and whilst it might need a couple of appearances, we’re confident that even on the spin-friendly Chepauk surface he can get the job done again.
That’s because Arshdeep has been consistently taking wickets on all kinds of pitches around the world, picking up 2+ in 13 of his 19 T20Is since the start of 2024.
That includes the slow pitches of New York City in the T20 World Cup, where he made the lack of pace a great asset, and if he can do so again here, that makes an even money price excellent value.
Prediction: Arshdeep Singh 2+ wickets - 2.00 @ 10Cric
New venue, new Suryakumar
We successfully predicted Suryakumar Yadav to fail in Kolkata on Wednesday on the basis of years of IPL struggles at the venue and we’ll be using that same statistical analysis to this time go the other way.
Surya is technically on the worst run of his T20 career, recording three consecutive single digit T20I scores for the first time in addition to ducks in his last two games for Mumbai, but the last four years have shown us that a significant contribution is never far away.
It’s not the gambler’s fallacy of success being ‘overdue’ that is driving this selection, rather SKY’s consistent run production at Chepauk over several IPL seasons.
He cleared 20+ runs in nine of his 11 IPL innings in Chennai, demonstrating that he can get starts there on a regular basis.
Four of those nine innings saw him register scores of 20-26 runs, so rather than betting on him to go over the 26.5 run mark set by Indian betting sites, we’ll instead take the safer option of a 20+ run score at a shorter price.
Prediction: Suryakumar Yadav 20+ runs - 1.57 @ 10Cric
When one rises, another falls - will it be Abhishek Sharma?
Abhishek Sharma belted all but Jofra Archer around Eden Gardens on Wednesday night, carrying forward some excellent form from the late 2024 tour of South Africa.
He was eventually dismissed by leg-spinner Adil Rashid, clubbing 24 runs off nine Rashid deliveries before trying one big hit too many, and on that basis Jos Buttler may be brave enough to test Rashid against Abhishek a little earlier this time.
Abhishek has made six IPL appearances at Chepauk across three seasons and all one of them ended in dismal failure and scores of 15 runs or less.
That included a score of 15 away to CSK and then early dismissals against both Rajasthan (12) and Kolkata (2) in the IPL playoffs.
Prediction: Abhishek Sharma under 25.5 runs - 1.83 @ 10Cric
