After weeks if not months of anticipation through the IPL and some bilateral series before that, India’s 15-man squad have finished their preparations in New York state and are ready to play their first of three consecutive matches at the pop-up stadium in Eisenhower Park.
All eyes are on the weekend marquee fixture against Pakistan, so it’s just as well they get one Group A game beforehand to adjust themselves to the below-foot conditions before the game that will in all likelihood decide the group winner.
Indian cricket betting players also got an initial chance to look at the conditions of the new venue earlier this week when South Africa and Sri Lanka played out a 157-run struggle where the collective run rate for both teams was just 4.42rpo.
Some members of the Indian side have insisted that the practice pitches, grown in the same part of Florida as the match surfaces, have improved day by day, but it has nonetheless forced betting sites in India to slightly adjust some markets for this game in response.

First blood to the Irish bowlers
Whilst most of the Indian players have had a couple of weeks in New York to acclimatise to conditions both above and below, the alarming variable bounce from the South Africa-Sri Lanka game has us wondering whether either team will be capable of a big total here.
Most cricket betting apps have set India’s opening partnership a mark of 27.5 runs, a threshold that they could not clear in any of their six matches at the 2022 T20 World Cup, where the pitches were generally better for batting.
They could even come into this tournament with an unsettled or even an entirely new opening partnership, with rumours emerging prior to the game that Virat Kohli could accompany Rohit Sharma at the top of the order to squeeze Sanju Samson into the middle order or Rishabh Pant up to three.
Rohit Sharma averaged less than 20 at the previous World Cup and hasn’t done a lot to impress in the two IPL seasons since, further adding to our confidence that the first wicket will be taken early.
Add to that the fact that Ireland took their first wicket for ten or fewer runs in five of their last seven games at the last World Cup with a very similar bowling lineup, and that from their 11 games since the start of 2023/24, only Dutch pair Max O'Dowd and Michael Levitt (39) got past 16.

Stirling's H2H shortcomings
Some fans are also expecting a low scoring Irish opening stand owing not only to the very bowling-friendly conditions that New York looks set to produce, but also because of some paltry numbers from Ireland captain Paul Stirling in these situations.
There was an average of just under 20 across his six international innings leading to this event, including an unofficial 21 in a loss to Sri Lanka, and it was against the strong bowling unit of Pakistan where he fared worst (11 & 8).
Stirling managed to accumulate just 36 runs from two innings against the West Indies in Florida, where the New York pitches were grown earlier this year.
There could therefore be some similar characteristics between the grounds at this World Cup, so it's worth looking into the Florida form to try to gauge how players will fare at Eisenhower Park.
The veteran Irishman has also struggled against India, averaging just 9.33 across his six starts against India (56 runs) and only thanks to one score of 40 in Dublin.

Arshdeep's American achievements
We're going all-in on this ‘Florida formline’ and looking into some proven performances in the land of the free from a man who finished the 2024 IPL season joint-fourth on the wicket-taking list with 19.
Arshdeep is India’s leading wicket-taker on American soil, with seven from 11.1 overs at an average of just 12.57, all from four matches against the West Indies in Florida.
Ironically, he only got his first opportunity because of Jasprit Bumrah’s long-term injury and a couple of others, but he has evolved into a multi-talented white ball bowler and has become an indispensable member of the fast bowling battery to the point that it’ll be very difficult for Mohammed Shami to ever replace him.
He took India’s first two wickets of their warm-up game against Bangladesh at this same venue, across the first and third overs of the run chase, which came as no surprise given he has been Punjab’s best powerplay bowler by a long way over the last two IPL seasons.
It could well be him who delivers for our loyal followers on both fronts by dismissing Stirling early!
