A Short But Costly Absence
arT's diagnosis was announced just days before Legacy's ESL Pro League Season 24 campaign, forcing the team to field analyst Pedro "bobz" Rocha as a stand-in in-game leader. Legacy were eliminated in the group stage, finishing with one win and three defeats without their regular captain calling the game.
The timing made the absence particularly painful: Legacy had climbed to second in the global Valve Regional Standings heading into that event on the back of a strong run with arT at the helm.
Back For A Loaded Field In Malta
With arT reinstated, Legacy head into Thunderpick World Championship as one of the favourites on betting sites, joining Falcons and FURIA as the other top-10 sides in the eight-team field. The event runs October 14-18 on Malta, with a $1,000,000 prize pool on the line.
Legacy's results with arT in the lineup through 2026 - including their number two global VRS ranking - had already positioned them as one of the teams to watch heading into the Singapore Major qualification window, making his return as much a result for the squad's season-long form as it is a health update.

A Recovery Legacy Tracked Publicly
Legacy had been updating fans on arT's condition throughout his treatment. In a September 30 statement, the organisation said the captain was "responding well to treatment" with his recovery "within expectations," while cautioning that medical staff wanted to wait out the first ten days of treatment before deciding next steps.
Teammate Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer, speaking to HLTV from Legacy's ESL Pro League basecamp in Poland, said the squad had since received good news: "He's doing much better and will probably come to Malta to play Thunderpick." Dumau added that the scare carried extra weight for him personally, having previously played alongside a teammate who died from meningitis.

Why It Matters For Bettors
Legacy's outright price for Thunderpick World Championship was always going to hinge on whether their captain and primary caller was fit to play. With arT back, bookmakers can price the Brazilian side on the back of their full-strength results rather than the group-stage exit they suffered without him, restoring Legacy as a credible outright and top-four pick alongside Falcons and FURIA.
Legacy's number two VRS ranking was built almost entirely with arT calling the game, which is why bookmakers had already begun shading the team's Thunderpick price before his status was confirmed.
With him back in the lineup alongside dumau, latto, n1ssim and try, Legacy return to Malta with the same roster that carried them to that ranking, rather than the stand-in unit that exited ESL Pro League early.
