NIP Exit Thunderpick Worlds Last In Group, Dodge Schedule Clash

Ninjas in Pyjamas were eliminated from the Thunderpick World Championship 2026 in Malta on October 15, 2026, after a 2-0 loss to Aurora in their Group A elimination match, finishing the event without a map win.

The result ends NIP’s run in last place in Group A, after an opening 2-0 defeat to Falcons, according to the tournament bracket.

NIP had joined the Thunderpick field at short notice, stepping in after Virtus.pro withdrew, meaning the roster was never scheduled to play in Malta at all.

A Two-Day Window Between Two Tournaments

The team had already qualified for the playoffs of Stake Pulse Beat III, a separate 16-team, $80,000 CS2 circuit staged by Stake Pulse in Stockholm, Sweden.

That qualification came three days before NIP had to travel to Malta for Thunderpick, leaving the roster with exactly two days to play out the Thunderpick group stage without risking a forfeit in either event, since the Stake Pulse Beat III quarter-finals were set to begin within 24 hours of a potential Thunderpick decider.

The early exit removed that conflict. NIP is now free to fly back to Stockholm in time for its Stake Pulse Beat III quarter-final against Team Liquid, scheduled for October 16 at 08:00 local time, part of a bracket that also includes Fnatic and Astralis.

The Roster’s Own Account

In-game leader Karim "Krimbo" Moussa told HLTV after the Aurora match that the run against two of CS2’s top five teams still left room for regret:

"Of course, we wanted to make them sweat a bit, Falcons and also Aurora. They are, I don’t know, the fourth- and fifth-best teams in the world right now. And yeah, I think we should have at least won a map. But we just have to learn from this tournament and keep going."

Moussa described the travel schedule, arriving in Malta on Tuesday evening and playing the following morning, as unusual preparation for a top-tier bracket, but said the team treated it as a one-off circumstance rather than its new normal.

Why It Matters For Bettors

Compressed overlapping schedules across CS2’s crowded late-2026 circuit are becoming a live variable for match pricing: a roster playing a Best-of-3 the same week it needs to be on a different continent carries fatigue and line-up risk that betting sites already factor into in-play markets.

NIP’s early elimination removes that risk for its Stake Pulse Beat III quarter-final, where the team returns with a full rest day rather than a same-day turnaround.
