Online Casino Tops Denmark's July 2026 Gambling Spend

Denmark's regulated gambling market generated DKK760 million (about US$118 million) in gross gaming revenue in July 2026, according to figures published by the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden).

Online casino was the single largest category of the liberalised market that month, continuing a run of double-digit annual growth in Danish online casino spend.

The Danish Gambling Authority's own statistics collection lists online casino as the most popular liberalised gambling type in July 2026 measured by gross gaming revenue, ahead of sports betting, gaming machines, land-based casino and bingo.

The regulator has recorded similar patterns in recent months: its May 2026 monthly report showed total spend across the liberalised market up 21.5% year-on-year, with betting turnover up 54.2% and online casino up 14.6% compared with May 2025.

Regulator Tracks Market Growth Monthly

Spillemyndigheden publishes a monthly statistics collection covering the Danish gambling market back to January 2012, alongside data from its ROFUS self-exclusion register and the StopSpillet helpline.

As of August 1, 2026, 73,500 people were registered as excluded through ROFUS.

The authority calculates gross gaming revenue as deposits, plus any commission, minus winnings paid out, describing it as the most reliable single measure of a gambling sector's economic size because raw turnover or deposit figures can overstate how much players actually spend once winnings are reinvested into further bets.

InterGame, reporting on the Danish Gambling Authority's figures, put online casino spend in July 2026 at DKK435.5 million (about $67.6 million), ahead of betting at DKK197.5 million ($30.7 million), gaming machines at DKK92.2 million ($14.3 million), land-based casino at DKK32.5 million ($5 million) and bingo at DKK2.28 million ($354,131).

Online casino spend was reported up 22% year-on-year, continuing the trend of that vertical outgrowing land-based formats each month this year.

Neighboring Nordic regulators have reported similar trends this year, with online casino consistently outpacing sports betting, land-based gaming and lottery-style products across most liberalised European markets tracked by trade press.

Growth Follows A Wider Nordic Online Casino Trend

Denmark's July reading extends a pattern the regulator has tracked through 2026, with online casino and sports betting consistently posting the strongest year-on-year growth among liberalised verticals compared with land-based formats such as gaming machines and physical casinos.

Denmark opened its online gambling market to competition under the Danish Gambling Act in 2012, ending the state monopoly previously held by Danske Spil for online casino and sports betting.

Licensed operators pay a 28% tax on gross gaming revenue from online casino and betting, with Spillemyndigheden acting as the sector's regulator and publishing the monthly statistics that show categories such as online casino continuing to expand well ahead of legacy land-based formats.
