Portugal Online Gambling Revenue Hits €651.9m In First Half Of 2026

In the second quarter alone, online gambling produced €328.2m in gross revenue, up 14.4% on the same quarter of 2025 and 1.4% higher than the first quarter. 

Casino games such as those found at online casinos accounted for 61.9% of the quarter's revenue, with sports betting making up the remaining 38.1%.

The first quarter had already brought in €323.7m, up 13.7% year on year, according to the regulator's according to the regulator's published reports. Together the two quarters push the half-year total past €650m for the first time.

The special online gambling tax collected in the second quarter came to €92.1m, up 13.4% year on year. With the €98.1m raised in the first quarter, online gambling generated about €190m in tax over the half.

Registered players reached 4.9 million by the end of June, with 248,400 new sign-ups during the second quarter, and about 1.2m placed at least one bet. 

The regulator also recorded 413,700 self-excluded players, up 26.8% year on year, with 60,900 new self-exclusions added in the quarter.

Away from the internet, gross revenue at Portugal's casinos and slot halls rose 6% year on year in the second quarter. Bingo halls were broadly flat, with a 0.1% dip on the same quarter of 2025, the regulator said.

Alongside the licensed market, the SRIJ said it issued 95 closure notifications to illegal operators in the second quarter, flagged 113 sites for blocking and referred six cases to the public prosecutor. 

Portugal's online market is served by 17 licensed operators holding 30 licences between them.
