Paddy Power Matriarch Sabena Power Leaves Estate Over €861m
Sabena Power, matriarch of the family behind Paddy Power, left an estate valued at more than €861 million when she died in September 2025.
The figure comes from papers the Probate Office published this week, The Irish Times reported on October 17, 2026.
The estate is one of the largest the Probate Office has recorded. Fees for the grant of probate alone came to more than €678,000.
How The Estate Will Be Divided
A grant of probate is the legal step that allows a person's estate to be divided up under their will. Under the terms of Sabena Power's will, her assets go to her four children.
Her sons William and Patrick receive one third each, and her daughters Shani and Tessa receive a sixth each.
She also left €50,000 to each of her 10 grandchildren.
The Flutter Connection
Sabena was the widow of David Power, the Paddy Power co-founder who died in July 2024. The Irish Times reported his death at the time, and media reports valued his estate at more than €400 million.
The Irish Times says that valuation was said to move with the share price of Flutter Entertainment plc, the parent company of Paddy Power. Flutter also owns FanDuel, Sky Betting & Gaming and Sportsbet.

From Tramore To A Global Bookmaker
The Power family's bookmaking roots go back to Tramore racecourse in 1895 and David Power's grandfather, Richard Power. David entered the betting industry in 1970 when he joined Richard Power after qualifying as a chartered accountant.
In 1988 he struck a deal with fellow bookmakers Stewart Kenny and John Corcoran that created Paddy Power. The company joined forces with Betfair in 2016 to form one of the biggest betting companies in the world.
Sabena Power was also a successful racehorse owner and breeder, and her distinctive colours were carried by two of the modern era's best sprinters.
Sole Power won the 2010 Nunthorpe Stakes and the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, and was named Horse Racing Ireland's Horse of the Year in 2014. Slade Power won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and the July Cup in 2014.
