Powbet is a colourful and exciting sportsbook that is now available in New Zealand. Powbet’s sports offering was created in 2020, but only opened its doors in New Zealand in 2021. It’s this company’s first venture into online sports betting, but since their creation in 2019 parent company Rabidi has opened a number of well-known online casinos, including Boomerang, 7Signs and the 5Gringos casino.

If you do not currently have an account at Powbet then we have some amazing news for you. Complete your registration at Powbet today and you can claim a welcome bonus that maxes out at NZ$200.
Your bonus does not require a promo code and is a 100 per cent deposit match of your first deposit, so to gain the maximum bonus you would need to deposit the full NZ$200. The minimum amount you need to deposit for a bonus is NZ$40. Do not use Skrill or Neteller to make your qualifying deposit or else you will not be awarded one.
This Powbet welcome bonus is only available once you have played through the entirety of your qualifying bet once. All bets made with the qualifying bonus must be at odds of at least 1.50. Your bonus is not awarded to you automatically, though. Once you have used up your qualifying bonus you need to contact Powbet, either via live chat or email. The support team will then check to see if you have met all qualification requirements and if you have, then the bonus will be yours.
You must roll over the value of your deposit and bonus six times on events of odds of 2.0 (singles) or 1.5 (multis). Bets must not be in excess of NZ$100, and your wagering requirements must be met within 30 days of you making that initial deposit.
Certain bet types do not count towards wagering requirements – so check this offer’s full T&Cs for details.
There were other promotions we found at Powbet when we reviewed the site. Details follow, but please be aware that these promotions could be be out-of-date by the time you visit Powbet, to have been replaced by new offers.
At the time of this review, Powbet does not offer any type of free bets promotion.
Powbet does not offer as many markets as some other sports betting sites that we have come across, particularly the largest, international brands. That does not mean you should ignore what Powbet offers though – far from it. The main sports covered here are football, basketball, tennis, table tennis and volleyball. Fans of the best horse racing betting sites will be glad to know that racing is very well covered too and has its own dedicated section.
You have to dig just a little bit deeper to find other markets, but they are available. There is a full A-Z list from alpine skiing all the way to water polo. There is top-class coverage of eSports too, and betting options for entertainment events such as the Oscars and political events.
The betting interface at Powbet matches a design that should be familiar to all sportsbook users. The betting menus are on the left, details about events happening right now are in the middle, and your bet slip and other information is on the right. The major menu consists mainly of soccer betting, covers all leading European leagues, and includes Premier League Betting. Sharing the limelight is tennis and the pro sports leagues in the US.
You can scroll down to find a more in-depth menu of available markets. In a nice touch, any betting market with current live events is highlighted. Basketball, volleyball and ice hockey receive priority here after football, followed by eSports, virtual football and basketball.
Any event can usually be found within three clicks of a mouse. 1X2 and Over/Under odds are displayed on the main page. Just click on the odds of any outcome to add a bet to your bet slip. For more detailed markets, click the down arrow to the right of any event.
Horse racing gets its own section as mentioned with meetings from all over the world available. The site has no live streaming but if a race is available to watch on broadcast TV there will be a small note informing you where you can watch it – another nice touch. All the horse racing info is powered by Latrobet, a horse racing data provider based in London, UK with offices in Asia and South America.
This online sportsbook does offer a substantial live betting section – indeed from the home page there is a ‘LIVE NOW’ tab that can be expanded to provide information about all the major sporting events happening there and then. You can click on any sport to filter out the events you are not interested in or click ‘see all’ to be able to examine the full range.
Placing any live bet is done in the same way as placing any bet at the site, and you can expand event listings in the same way too. Just click on the odds of the outcome you want to wager on to transfer it to your slip, then select your stake to finalise your bet.
The ability to cash out is important for live betting, and we are pleased to confirm that Powbet will offer both full and partial cash out on most live bets you place.
Powbet does not currently offer any live streaming at all.
The registration process is (relatively) easy to complete at Powbet. The button you need to click is ‘Play Now’. Once you have done this you can choose either the sports betting bonus or the casino bonus (max NZ$1,000 plus 200 free spins) or choose to have no bonus at all. Click ‘Next Step’ once you have made your decision.
Enter your email and phone number, and then select your login name and a password. Your password must have at least nine characters and have at least one number, one upper-case character and one lower case character. Once you have done this, click ‘Next Step’ again.
The final step requires you to enter your first and last name, date of birth, gender and your address. Check the T&Cs box the click ‘create account’.
That’s it! Your account is now good to go!
There are a good number of payment options available at Powbet, including cards like Visa and Mastercard, eWallets and even cryptocurrencies.
With so many methods, you shouldn't have many problems getting money into and out of your Powbet account. Importantly, all methods come with no fees!
In all honesty, we’re going to have to give the Powbet desktop software a B+. The speed of loading can be slow at times, and on more than one occasion we found that bits of the site do not load properly. Perhaps the site was just having a bad day?
Having said that the desktop experience is very well-designed and easy to use. It’s also attractive in a positive way, in that the colour, images and promos do not get in the way of the betting experience like at other sites.
Via the main Powbet being site you can gain access to Powbet’s casino, which contains a live casino too.
Powbet has not yet joined the growing list of mobile betting apps in New Zealand but does have a user-friendly mobile browser version.
We found the mobile site to be faster and more reliable than the desktop one. The menus on mobile are easy to use, and the full site functionality is available, which is how it should be. The mobile site will work perfectly well on iOS and Android-powered phones and tablets.
Powbet does not offer ‘best odds guaranteed’ nor could we find any enhanced or boosted odds offers. We checked out the odds the site offers though, and we found them to be competitive within acceptable margins. In short, you are just as likely to find better odds elsewhere as you are to find slightly worse ones.
Live chat is available at Powbet, but it is third-party support as offered by LiveAgent. We contacted support and we were responded to within 20 seconds. Responses after that were not the speediest but remained within the timeframe we thought of as being acceptable. The answers we received were helpful, but we feel if Powbet offered bespoke, site-specific support the experience would have been better.
Powbet operates a very inventive VIP program called ‘Power Squad’. This is a sports-based incentives game where you can obtain a five-a-side team and increase their abilities via power ups. Power ups cost coins, and you can obtain coins by depositing, wagering, competing in tournaments, and completing challenges.
Each time you power up you earn a $75 bonus, and by completing a fully powered squad you can earn up to NZ$1,500 in bonus cash. You can complete squads in football, hockey, basketball, and tennis, earning more rewards as you do so.
It’s certainly an inventive way of providing a loyalty program, and it gets a thumbs up from us.
Powbet does offer advice on responsible gambling, but does not subscribe to any blocking agencies, nor offer links to gambling addiction aid services. Powbet will allow you to close your account but makes it clear that they consider a player’s gambling actions to be their own responsibility.
There is plenty to like about Powbet, and in particular that inventive VIP scheme, the 10 per cent cash back facility, the range of markets, the number of payment options and the overall design of the site. There are speedy payments too (everything seems to be processed instantly) and zero fees for withdrawal, which is how it should be.
We would like to see those site niggles ironed out though, plus better levels of dedicated support. Maybe bespoke betting apps too?
Overall, we found our experiences at Powbet to be positive, and we’re willing to bet that you will too.
Yes, Powbet Sports has a minimum withdrawal of NZ$20 across the board.
We’ve seen better selections elsewhere, but we think there’s enough markets at Powbet for most people.
No. To play via a phone or tablet you have to load the site into your browser.
The Powbet site uses secure communication protocols to encrypt all your data, so we think you will be safe.
Powbet says it will process all withdrawal requests instantly.
That would be with the Government of Curaçao.
