Taco Brothers is yet another fun and thrilling slot from ELK Studios. As well as the silky animation and expertly rendered graphics, Taco Brothers is a medium variance slot which boasts a tantalising RTP of 96.3%. If you love Mexican food, this slot may have been built just for you. You don’t have to be a fan of frijoles to appreciate this game though. Check out our review to find out why you should be standing by the brothers’ side as they concoct a plan to get rid of Captain Diaz and make you money in the process.
A humorous cinematic introduces the three Taco Brothers – Paso, Pepe and Pico – who intervene when the moustache-twirling Captain Diaz arrives in town and bans tacos. Each of the brothers has a speciality – Paso smokes cigars while formulating a plan, Pepe is the romantic musician with his trusty guitar, while Pico has an obsession with dynamite.
It is a light-hearted caper in the vein of The Three Amigos, filled with Wild West tropes and plenty of bonuses to boot. The cartoony action unfolds along with some relaxing Mexican-inspired music that is perfectly suited for this 5 reel, 243 ways-to-win slot, whether you're playing at home or out on the go.
Taco Brothers has been out for several years now, having been originally released in November 2015. It has since spawned a Christmas-themed sequel that was released exactly a year after the first game. Both were conceived to run on all platforms including mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones. The colourful cartoon animation is crisp and smooth regardless of which screen it is on, and as it is the exact same game you can switch from playing at home to playing while moseying along outside.
Whether you are a new player or an experienced gambler, there are benefits to using ELK Studios betting strategies found within the Bet Level section of the game. They can help you keep track of your wins and losses.
The Mexican theme and setting is reflected in the icons that appear on the reels. As well as the handsome trio of brothers, the slot features cacti, guitars and bottles of tequila. Along with a lantern and spade, these are the lowest scoring symbols, with a full payline worth 80 times the bet regardless of the symbol.
The titular stars of the game also appear on the reel, with Paso the highest scoring, followed by Pepe and then Pico. A full payline featuring Paso pays out 400 times the wager, while Pepe is lower at 300 times the bet and Pico only pays 100 times the original wager. The Taco Brothers also appear again as part of the bonus features.
The game’s logo acts as a Respin and you only need to hit two of them for the feature to activate. During the respins, there is a higher chance that you can land three Safe symbols, which sets off the Free Spins bonus game. During this bonus round the Exploding Safe icon acts as a multiplier and applies to all winnings within that Free Spins period.
It is during the Free Spins that the brothers feature again, but in a different capacity. Rather than just symbols on the reels, the Taco Brothers also appear as Running Wilds. They will drop onto Reel 5 after each spin, and then move across the board one square per spin. These Running Wilds can substitute in for another other symbol, with the exception of Captain Diaz and his daughter.
If Captain Diaz appears during the free spins round flashing a set of gold keys, he throws one of the running wilds in jail. If all three brothers end up behind bars, it's game over for the bonus round. However, salvation lies with Captain Diaz’s daughter, Senorita, who has a similar set of keys. She will free any imprisoned Running Wild, setting them off again while gifting more free spins. She will also restart the Running Wild process so they continue to work their way across the reels.
Taco Brothers is a well-conceived slot game with story, substance and style. The jovial Mexican music combined with the outstanding animation makes this a sheer joy to play, while the bonuses and free spins keep the action engaging for long periods of gameplay.
If you enjoyed your time with the Taco Brothers, you can check out their newest game, Taco Brothers Saving Christmas, where the brothers must once again outwit Captain Diaz, aided by Senorita. If you want a holiday from the Taco Brothers but a similar game, search for Las Cucas Locas from Pariplay.
If you’re looking for more of a straight-laced Western themed slot game, check out NetEnt's Dead or Alive as well as Gunslinger by Play’n GO. Both feature typical western tropes such as Sheriff badges, whisky shots and wanted posters.
