DP World Tour Championship Betting Tips: Six Selections From Season Finale

The season ends with this week’s DP World Tour Championship where Rory McIlroy understandably starts as the 4/1 favourite on betting sites to win the tournament for a fourth time in Dubai.

McIlroy is also in the driving seat to win the Harry Vardon Trophy for a seventh occasion after a sensational closing 10-under-par 62 at the Abu Dhabi Championship ensured he stretched his lead over nearest rival Marco Penge.

In-form Tommy Fleetwood, a winner here in 2017, is next in the betting at 6/1, followed by 14/1 shot Tyrrell Hatton, who has finished in the top 10 in seven of his last 11 appearances at the Earth Course.

There are 52 players competing at the par-72 track, a stretching 7,706 yards which benefits not only those long off the tee but also those who are strong on the undulating greens.

Bombers are not guaranteed success as Collin Morikawa proved in 2021, but short to medium length players had better ensure their tee-to-green game is dialled in this week.

The Panel are pushing out the boat with three outrights, two first-round leaders and one top 20 for the season finale, starting with Nicolai Hojgaard, who gave the column a 30/1 place at last week’s Abu Dhabi Championship, although his price had been 40/1 at the time of writing.

DP World Tour Championship Tips: Stick With Nicolai

Hojgaard finished just one shot behind Fleetwood and Aaron Rai at Yas Links where he topped the tee-to-green stats over the four days and looks primed to go well once again, just as he did when winning this tournament two years ago.

The Dane birdied five of the last six holes for a two-shot victory over Fleetwood, Matt Wallace and Viktor Hovland, who is skipping this week to recover from a neck injury.

Hojgaard had already presaged his liking for the Earth Course when finishing in a tie for fourth on his 2021 debut thanks to a final-round 67.

With Hojgaard the longest hitter on average on the DP World Tour this year and inside the top 10 for Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, it’s obvious that this is a lay-out that suits his game.

As The Panel mentioned in last week’s preview, two of Hojgaard’s three Tour titles have come in the United Arab Emirates and a third certainly looks a possibility.

He is a best-priced 18/1 on one of the golf betting sites, having returned to form after a run of missed cuts from the European Masters and makes the grade as the first of this week’s DP World Tour Championship tips.

DP World Tour Championship Predictions: Earth Calling Lowry

Shane Lowry was also in the plan last week and looks worth another shot at the same price of 22/1 for the DP World Tour Championship after finishing 12th in a 72-man field at Yas Links.

Lowry posted on X that he had “played lovely”, but made “too many mistakes” last week when he was let down by his driving, but this is a course that has generally treated the Ryder Cup hero well.

The Irishman has posted four top-10s in his last 10 visits to the Earth Course, including a career-best third place last year.

Excluding last season’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans which he won with McIlroy, Lowry has not been inside the winner’s circle in more than three years, but in a limited field missing the likes of Jon Rahm, he could be in the mix on Sunday.

Lowry has the sixth best scoring average on this course from this week’s entrants (69.85) in the last six years, so The Panel are happy to stick with him for the season finale.

DP World Tour Championship Golf Odds: No Ig-Noren Swede

Alex Noren is enjoying one of his best ever seasons and has to be considered at 25/1 with most betting apps to lift the trophy on Sunday.

The Swede won the British Masters in August and two weeks later beat Adrien Saddier in a play-off to win the prestigious BMW PGA Championship for the second time in his career.

Those victories propelled Noren back into the world’s top 20, having been 110th when he missed the cut at the Irish Open in May.

Noren has only played at this tournament twice in the last seven years, but he was inside the top 10 in 2018 and three years ago he finished runner-up to Rahm, so he has taken advantage of his opportunities when they have arisen.

Although not a long hitter at an average of 291.63 yards this season, Noren’s SG: Off-the-Tee numbers are pretty good and his putting remains excellent.

Noren closed with a five-under-par 67 last week for a top-20 finish and hopefully he carries that momentum to the Earth Course where he was the strongest player on and around the greens in his last trip here in 2022.

DP World Tour Championship Betting Tips 3: Alex Noren 25/1 (Each-Way) - With William Hill (Five Places)

DP World Tour Championship First-Round Leader Tips: Fast Show From Elvira?

Nacho Elvira followed up his excellent runners-up spot at the Genesis Championship with seventh place at Yas Links, so the Spaniard has certainly hit form at the right time.

Elvira catches the eye at 275/1 with Bet365 this week, but since he has never finished better than 30th in three visits, The Panel prefer him in the first-round leader market at 80/1 with the same bookmaker.

The world number 189 has been bursting out of the blocks since holding the lead after the opening round of the Irish Open in early September.

In his last four appearances, Elvira’s first-round stats read 11-7-11-6 and he was just one shot off the places after Thursday’s round a tthis course 12 months ago.

DP World Tour Championship Betting Tips 4: Nacho Elvira 80/1 First-Round Leader (Each-Way) - With Bet365 (Five Places)

DP World Tour Championship First-Round Leader Tips: Nakajima Worth A Whirl

Keita Nakajima was seventh on his tournament debut last year, so it’s no surprise to see that a player who has three runners-up finishes to his name this season is 55/1 this time around.

However, The Panel prefer his prospects in the first-round leader market at 40/1 with Coral.

The Japanese is another golfer who has been making fast starts in the last few months, with four top-sixes in his last nine appearances at the end of Thursday’s play.

Nakajima was in a tie for fourth after round one here last year thanks to an eagle at the last and hopefully he can repeat the trick this week.

DP World Tour Championship Betting Tips 5: Keita Nakajima 40/1 First-Round Leader (Each-Way) - With Coral (Five Places)

DP World Tour Championship Top-20 Tips: Sullivan Looks Handy

Finally, The Panel are on board with Andy Sullivan to finish in the top 20 at 8/5 with Betfred.

Sullivan has been in excellent form in the last few weeks, culminating in seventh place at the Abu Dhabi Championship.

The 38-year-old from Nuneaton has finished 10th in two of his last four appearances in Dubai, but either side he was 26th and 24th, the latter coming 12 months ago.

The 2015 runner-up is peaking at just the right time and a top-20 finish does not look beyond him, even in such an elite field.

DP World Tour Championship Betting Tips 6: Andy Sullivan Top 20 - 8/5 With Betfred
