Andy Brassell's Weekend Football Tips Including Aston Villa Vs West Ham

Last week - for the second successive column, Andy was one goal away from his 15/2 treble landing after correctly predicting Newcastle would leave Stamford Bridge unbeaten and Cesc Fabregas' Como would defeat Roma.

Andy has been a writer and broadcaster on European football for 20 years, featuring on TalkSPORT, On The Continent, The Guardian, Sky Sports and TNT Sports.

Feyenoord Vs Ajax, Sunday 1.30pm

Even if the engravers could have started marking PSV’s name on the Eredivisie trophy weeks ago, this is a huge game, and not just because of historic beef.

It’s all about Champions League qualification, with Feyenoord still in the box seat as things stand, but many supporters at De Kuip are very unhappy with the board and coach Robin van Persie.

Pressure is on RVP and new signing Raheem Sterling, who provided the winning assist for Ayase Ueda last week against Heracles, to turn an advantage into a decisive lead in the runners-up spot.

The bad news for them is that Ajax looked very accomplished (though still far from perfect) in last week’s demolition of Sparta Rotterdam in their first game under new head coach Oscar Garcia.

Ajax, who are underdogs on many betting apps for this contest, arrive in Rotterdam full of confidence that they can close the gap to their rivals to just two points.

Andy Brassell's Weekend Tips:

Aston Villa Vs West Ham, Sunday 2:15pm

What a transformation we’ve seen at West Ham in the last couple of months. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are still in the bottom three, but only on goal difference.

A win at Villa Park would see them exit the relegation zone with the two sides directly above them - Tottenham and Nottingham Forest - facing off at the same time.

That would have seemed fanciful just weeks ago, but the Hammers have only lost twice in their last 12 league games, emerging victorious in three of their last five away trips.

In contrast Aston Villa, who wrapped up a 3-0 aggregate win over Lyon on Thursday night, look jaded while West Ham rested up.

Villa, who are favourites on betting sites to beat the Hammers, haven’t won in over a month in the Premier League, and the goals have dried up.

Real Madrid Vs Atletico Madrid, Sunday 8pm

Both of the Spanish capital clubs made it to the Champions League last eight during their midweek trips to England, but did so in differing fashions.

Real Madrid’s season could have been changed by what they did over the two legs against Manchester City, as they looked clinical and decisive in both ties

Atletico’s performance at Tottenham was more in keeping with their issues on the road, even against ostensibly inferior opposition.

In 2026, they have only beaten top-flight teams twice away from home in nine attempts, and one of those was a stolen last-gasp win at bottom team Oviedo.

Add in the return of a fresh Kylian Mbappe and it looks tough for Diego Simeone and company.

Andy's weekend treble pays out at around 22/1 with Grosvenor.
