Albert Bartlett (Friday 15.20) Jalon D'Oudairies @ 20/1
Gordon Elliott looks set to head into the Cheltenham Festival with a strong team.
While plenty could still change with his novices and their targets, one horse that really catches the eye at a big price is Jalon D'Oudairies in the Albert Bartlett.
Elliott has always held him in high regard, and although he was entitled to win as he did at Naas last time, it was still a very taking performance.
He travelled well throughout before finding plenty when it mattered, suggesting this step up to a proper stamina test could bring out even more improvement.
He also has the benefit of experience now, which can be crucial in a race like the Albert Bartlett, where the emphasis is very much on toughness and staying power rather than pure class.
Conditions shouldn’t worry him either as he handles different types of ground and he looks the sort who will keep galloping when others begin to struggle.
There’s clearly plenty of quality towards the top of the market, but that isn’t always rewarded in this race and his current price of around 20/1 looks generous.
If he jumps well and gets into a rhythm, I can easily see him becoming very competitive and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s significantly shorter come the day.
In a race where stamina and attitude count for plenty, he looks overpriced and could be the longshot to keep onside.
