Jean-Philippe Mateta Next Club Odds: Villa Favourites But Juve Move Makes Sense

Jean-Philippe Mateta has reportedly told Crystal Palace he wants to leave the club and betting sites have responded quickly already opening a market on his next port of call.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims the France striker, who has 18 months left on his contract, wants to join another club before the transfer window closes on February 2.

The new year has been difficult for the Eagles, who sold captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City just a few days after it was revealed that manager Oliver Glasner will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season.

We take a look at some of the clubs in the running to land the Eagles star and the latest next Jean-Philippe Mateta club odds.

Next Mateta Club Odds: Villa Early Favourites

Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa are in the market for a new striker and have been linked with a move for Roma’s Tammy Abraham, who is on loan at Turkish side Besiktas.

Villa recently farmed out Donyell Malen to the Serie A club, but have recalled Jamaica winger Leon Bailey from his loan spell with Roma.

Manager Unai Emery, though, really wants a centre-forward to help take the load off Ollie Watkins, who has scored just seven goals this season.

Villa have now registered their interest in signing Mateta, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, so it looks like they could have a decision to make in the next few days.

One line of thought is that Villa are prepared to offload Evann Guessand as a makeweight to sweeten the deal for the Palace hierarchy, who reportedly want between £35-40million for their prized asset.

It is said that Mateta wants to play in the Champions League, so Villa can potentially offer that from next season and are 4/5 to bring the forward to Villa Park before the January window closes.

Next Mateta Club Odds: Juve Still In The Market

Mateta has at least one other option, but Palace have so far rebuffed Juventus’ offer of a loan move with an obligation to buy for £28.5m.

The Eagles striker would be able to register as a Champions League player before the knockout stage, so he could get an early taste of playing at Europe’s top table.

Scoring goals in Serie A would be much easier than in the Premier League, as Arsenal proved at Inter Milan, but perhaps Villa would be prepared to offer higher wages than their Italian rivals.

With Mateta’s legacy secured in England, a move to a more prestigious club like Juve would make sense, but it all depends on the striker’s motivation and Palace’s determination to get as much money as they can for the former Mainz attacker.

Villa are rightly favourites, but Juve are not far behind at 6/5.

Next Mateta Club Odds: Napoli Raid?

The Premier League has been an excellent hunting ground for Serie A champions Napoli, who are 2/1 to sign Mateta during the transfer window.

Rasmus Hojlund, Scott McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne have been unqualified successes since moving to Italy, but could they be joined by another player from the Premier League?

Head coach Antonio Conte wants to boost his squad in attacking areas to ensure Napoli finish in the top four and possibly retain their title, so a deal for Mateta would make perfect sense.

Whether Napoli have the financial clout to compete with Aston Villa remains open to question, but Conte is playing hardball with the club’s ownership, who may have to yield if they are to keep the Italian at the helm.

Napoli are 2/1 with betting apps to sign Mateta in the next week or two.

Next Mateta Club Odds: United Front

Michael Carrick’s reign as interim head coach at Manchester United got off to the perfect start with a comprehensive 2-0 derby win against rivals City.

Bryan Mbeumo’s return from AFCON was a major boost to the former Red Devils midfielder, who would love to have someone with Mateta’s quality in his squad.

Benjamin Sesko is taking time to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League, so having a player like Mateta, now in his sixth season in the top flight, would be a great addition to a club with top-four ambitions.

United are 3/1 to snap up Mateta.

Blues And Gunners In The Frame

London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are 3/1 and 5/1 respectively to sign Mateta this winter.

Joining either team from the capital would mean avoiding the upheaval of a switch to the continent or the West Midlands.

The jury is still out with Blues fans on Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, but Mateta would bring physical presence to their attack under new boss Liam Rosenior.

Similarly, Viktor Gyokeres has struggled to bring his prolific form from two years at Sporting to the Premier League, although the return from injury of Gabriel Jesus has eased some of Mikel Arteta’s concerns.

Simeone Wants New Signings

Atletico Madrid have sold Conor Gallagher to Tottenham and Giacomo Raspadori to Atalanta during the transfer window, and head coach Diego Simeone has made it clear he wants new signings.

However, PSG’s Lee Kang-in seems a more likely replacement for Raspadori, so 6/1 on Atleti signing Mateta hardly gets the pulses racing.

Roma are 8/1 to sign the Palace star, while Borussia Dortmund can be backed at 10/1

Liverpool are without injured striker Alexander Isak and are 12/1 to bring Mateta to Anfield, although such a move seems unlikely considering how much the Reds spent in the summer.
