Leading Cities Outside The US Hoping To Host A Super Bowl

Future Super Bowl venues for 2028 onwards will be discussed at a later meeting between team owners.

After hosting 36 games at Wembley, Twickenham and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the English capital can expect to be first in line if the NFL decides to take the Super Bowl outside of the States.

A London-based franchise in the future is something Goodell refuses to rule out, which keeps the door open for a Super Bowl in the capital. 

Munich And Frankfurt Fight For German Super Bowl

Germany can consider itself second in line for a Super Bowl to be handed to them.

In the last two seasons, three regular season games have been played in the country, two in Frankfurt and one in Munich. 

Munich will host next season’s only German game and if all goes smoothly, then it will only boost Munich's hope of hosting a Super Bowl at a later date. 

The love for the sport has grown ever since German teams dominated NFL Europe in the 1990s.

Commissioner Goodell has been blown away with the support at all three German games, where spectators stayed in their seats singing for over an hour after the game had ended.

Could Riyadh Host Future Super Bowl? 

Riyadh is emerging as a hotbed of major sporting events and they will want to force themselves into any discussions about hosting a future Super Bowl. 

The capital of Saudi Arabia has hosted big time boxing and LIV golf. 

Some of the biggest football stars including Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar have been persuaded to play in their domestic league.

Next month, the city will host the fourth Formula 1 Grand Prix, so why not a Super Bowl?

Money is no object for Riyadh, who will continue to pitch for the biggest sports events in the world. 

Sao Paulo Ahead Of Mexico City In South America Bid

Mexico City has hosted four NFL regular season games at the Estadio Azteca, but it should have been five. 

In 2018, the same stadium was due to host a Los Angeles Rams home game with the Kansas City Chiefs, but problems with the playing surface forced the league to play the game in Los Angeles. 

When the game was played, the Rams won 54-51 in the third highest-scoring game in NFL history. 

The league fulfilled its commitment to play two more games in Mexico City, but Sao Paulo now seems to be the new first choice for South America. 

We will find out shortly who the Philadelphia Eagles will host in Brazil to start their 2024 season. 

If everything goes smoothly in Sao Paulo, then it could be regarded as a future Super Bowl host city. 

More New Venues On The Cards?

Don’t expect the NFL to stop trying out new cities in the coming years. 

Goodell’s legacy will include expanding the sport to a bigger global audience and now that team owners are on board with the concept, no country is out of bounds.

All 32 teams have played outside America as they know they can grow their international fanbase by playing abroad. 

In the run-up to Super Bowl LVIII, it was announced that Madrid would host a regular season game at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu Stadium in 2025.

NFL fans in other European cities such as Paris or Dublin could also throw their hat into the ring to host regular season games, before the possibility of hosting a Super Bowl.
