Nat Coombs' NFL Week 2 Tips Including Seahawks @ Steelers

The NFL got off to an explosive start with last season's two Super Bowl teams experiencing mixed fortunes.

The Philadelphia Eagles celebrated their second Vince Lombardi trophy success in eight years with a nervy 24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

The Kansas City Chiefs, defeated by the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, fell to a 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil.

Week 2 is a chance for redemption for those who lost their openers and for the 16 winnings teams to improve their record to 2-0.

TalkSPORT's Nat Coombs' three selections last week all landed at 10/1, and he is sharing three more tips for Sunday's gridiron action, which pays out at around 23/4 on NFL betting sites.

Rams @ Titans Prediction: LA's Defense To Shine

On my podcast (The Nat Coombs Show) this week, we discussed some of the 'under the radar' narratives from Week 1.

Some of the takeaways were marginalised due to the epic nature of the Bills/Ravens game on Sunday night, the feel-good bounce back arc for Daniel Jones and the gutsy comeback win for NFC Player of the Week JJ McCarthy.

I leant into the excellence of the Rams defense, which held CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans offense to just six points.

What underpinned this exceptional performance were several X-factor individual plays, including Cobie Durant's agile interception and Nate Landman’s forced fumble, which was brilliantly recovered by Braden Fiske.

Emmanuel Forbes, a former first-round pick that flamed out of Washington but was taken in by the Rams this off-season, started at corner opposite Ahkello Witherspoon and gained plaudits, with Cobie Durant and Darious Williams interchanging.

That’s a solid backfield to complement the pop up front.

The Tennessee Titans, who faced another impressive defense when losing to the Broncos, could not get the passing game going at all with rookie quarterback Cam Ward in his first start.

Ward was unable to join Caleb Williams as the only first-overall pick to win their first start since 2002.

Prop-O, one of the co-hosts on my podcast, felt Ward showed plenty of promise, and the former Miami Hurricane should benefit in the long-term from the staggering lack of attention for a #1 pick.

However, I expect the Rams to cause issues for an offensive line ranked 27th by PFF.

Los Angeles quarterback Matthew Stafford did not seem to be impacted by his well-documented back issues and I like the Rams to cover here.

Seahawks @ Steelers Preview: Pittsburgh To Edge Close Affair

I got a close look at the Pittsburgh Steelers as they were our live game on TalkSPORT last Sunday.

The main takeaways from that game revolve around Aaron Rodgers, rebounding not quite to his vintage years, but demonstrably a clip or two up from his abject time at the New York Jets.

If they can get first-season Denver Broncos-era Peyton Manning play from Rodgers, with a veteran defense, that if stays healthy is ranked top-five in the league, and crucially get more from Jaylen Warren and their ground game, this could be a play-off team.

The Seahawks defense was highly praised despite their loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week, and they may cause some issues to Pittsburgh's offensive line that gave up three sacks at the New York Jets.

However, Jaxon Smith-Njigba notwithstanding, Seattle's offense struggled and therein lies the problem.

Outside of their superstar receiver, the rest of the receiving corps caught just seven passes for just 26 yards

The Jets had an effective ground game going against Pittsburgh, but Seattle do not have the talent of Breece Hall at running back, and I expect the Steelers defense to uptick significantly here.

Patriots @ Dolphins Tip: Miami To Bounce Back In Home Opener

The Dolphins were the biggest bust of the opening weekend, but I think their demise may be overstated right now.

Noise around head coach Mike McDaniel losing the locker room, not having a plan B and being on the hottest of hot seats is gaining volume, particularly from old-school coaches (Rex Ryan for example), who are distrustful of next gen, new-era playcallers like McDaniel.

Sure, they were terrible against the Colts, but they made a host of mistakes offensively that handed the initiative to Indianapolis.

Looking at the total points market on BetMGM, the assumption is that Miami will replicate that poor performance offensively.

However, this is an offense that features Tyreek Hill (WR), Jaylen Waddle (WR), De’von Achane (RB). On his day, Tua Tagovailoa is a top-10 quarterback and this week he is up against a New England defense that is banged up.

The Patriots are without Christian Gonzalez, their best player at cornerback. The Dolphins are also missing some key starters, including cornerback Storm Duck, who is no Gonzalez, but his absence adds further challenges to Miami's secondary.

New England quarterback Drake Maye is looking increasingly settled as an NFL starter and as such, I think both offenses can hum on Sunday.

I’m leaning towards the over here, given the relatively meagre total.
