Phoenix Open Betting Tips: 5 Selections From Rowdy TPC Scottsdale

The best-attended golf tournament on the planet takes place this week, although the crowd at the Phoenix Open probably won’t be winning awards for the best behaviour.

All eyes will be on the rowdy 16th, known as The Colosseum, which in 2022 saw Sam Ryder ace the par-three hole, prompting hundreds of cans of beer to be thrown onto the green.

Around 700,000 fans will be heading to TPC Scottsdale where Scottie Scheffler starts as the 14/5 favourite with betting sites to win the tournament for a third time.

Another two-time winner, Hideki Matsuyama, is third favourite at 16/1, just behind 13/1 shot Justin Thomas who has finished 17th or better in his last seven visits.

It promises to be another thriller in Arizona as The Panel pick out a handful of Phoenix Open predictions for one of the most colourful stops on the PGA Tour.

Phoenix Open Betting Tips: Get On The Tom Train

Scheffler’s odds continue to shorten after a decent showing in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am where he made his first appearance since undergoing surgery.

The world number one cut his hand while rolling out ravioli with a wine glass over Christmas, thus missing a couple of tournaments.

It would be no surprise if the American made it a hat-trick of wins at this par-71 course which ranks mid-division in terms of difficulty, but The Panel are going with a couple of Toms in their outright selections.

Kim Joo-hyung, known affectionately as Tom Kim after Thomas the Tank Engine, kicks us off at 30/1 with Unibet to win his fourth PGA Tour title.

The South Korean played really well from tee to green last week in finishing seventh at Pebble Beach (and Spyglass Hill for one round), although he actually ranked high in nearly all of the Strokes Gained metrics.

Kim’s hopes of victory 12 months ago were dented by an opening 74, but he played supremely well from Friday to Sunday (66-67-67) for a top-20 finish.

The world No 23 ended 2024 strongly with runners-up spots at the Genesis Championship and Hero World Challenge, and hopefully 2025 is about to spark into life after a decent showing on the Californian coast.

Phoenix Open Odds: Keep Faith With Hoge

The Panel put up Tom Hoge at 60/1 last week and, having finished inside the top 20, see no reason to desert him in Phoenix, especially at higher odds of 80/1 with golf betting sites.

Hoge has made a solid start to the season, his best performance coming at The Sentry where he was eighth and he has missed just one cut since August.

His record at Scottsdale has been feast or fallow in the last five years, three top-25 finishes dotted in a couple of missed cuts, but his encouraging start to 2025 suggests he could go well if he can handle the highly-charged party atmosphere.

Hitting the greens is an important requisite this week, so it’s good to see Hoge is inside the top 10 for approach using the Strokes Gained metric.

Solid from tee to green last week, Hoge looks ready to compete for a first PGA Tour title in three years, but it’s probably wise to take the eight places offered by William Hill.

Phoenix Open Prediction 2: Tom Hoge (Each-Way) - 80/1 With William Hill (Eight Places)

Phoenix Open Preview: Novak In Tune For Top 20

Andrew Novak made an inauspicious start to the season with two missed cuts, but bounced back in style with third place at the Farmers Insurance Open followed by 13th at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The American was just a shot off the lead heading into Sunday at Torrey Pines thanks to a third-round 66, but closed with a rollercoaster 74 to finish two strokes behind winner Harris English.

Novak did not let that disappointment affect him last week when his putter was hot, although at Torrey Pines his numbers were positive for all the metrics, especially tee-to-green (+2.08).

Yet to win on the PGA Tour, Novak tends to have hot spells followed by a series of missed cuts, so it’s best to catch him while he’s on a roll.

He was eighth on his Phoenix Open debut last season and looks well priced at 10/3 with betting apps for a top-20 finish.

Phoenix Open Prediction 3: Andrew Novak Top 20 - 10/3 With Unibet

Phoenix Open Predictions: Mitchell Can Rise In Phoenix

Keith Mitchell’s sole victory came almost six years ago and although he is one of the best players on the tour from tee to green, he does not look like ending his drought soon.

That said, the 33-year-old from Tennessee has made a solid start to the year, making the cut on all three occasions with a record that reads 30-21-33.

Mitchell has finished inside the top 20 in three of his five visits to Scottsdale and can also be backed at 10/3 with Spreadex in that market.

However, The Panel are playing a safer game with Mitchell and taking the 13/8 on offer with the same bookmaker for a top-30 finish.

Phoenix Open Prediction 4: Keith Mitchell Top 20 - 13/8 With Spreadex

Phoenix Open Tips: Taylor Made For Fast Start

Nick Taylor got off to a blistering start by equalling the course record with an opening-round 60 en route to winning last year’s Phoenix Open.

Twelve months earlier, the Canadian, who recently won the Sony Open in Hawaii, shot a 65 to sit one shot behind Jason Day on the first day and went on to finish runner-up to Scheffler.

It would be expecting too much for Taylor to finish in the top two, so The Panel are drawn towards the 66/1 on offer with QuinnBet for back-to-back first-round leads at this tournament.

Taylor has been 13-8-23 on Thursdays in his last three events and hopefully he can get off to another flier in Phoenix.

Phoenix Open Prediction 5: Nick Taylor First-Round Leader (Each-Way) - 66/1 With QuinnBet (Five Places)
