The Moises Caicedo transfer saga is close to being resolved but the best betting sites still do not know where Romeo Lavia will end up.

The Southampton midfielder will almost certainly be plying his trade away from St Mary’s in 2023/24.

He was a rare bright spot for the club in their relegation campaign last time out, starring in a holding midfield role and delivering mature performances that belied his teenage years.

Lavia is a top talent and a transfer this summer was always likely. For a while it looked like there was only one club in the market for him, but that has changed over the last week or so.

At the time of writing his future remains uncertain. Where will Lavia be stationed on September 2, the day after the transfer window closes?

We will probably find out soon and the odds suggest this one could go one of two ways.

Predicting Romeo Lavia's Next Club: Analysing Chelsea's Chances Of Signing Him

Chelsea paid triple figures for Enzo Fernandez in January and they are now about to do the same for Caicedo.

Their big spending might not be done there, however: the Blues are also trying to land Lavia and the indications are that they would be willing to match Liverpool’s bid, thus forcing the youngster to decide.

Mauricio Pochettino knew he needed midfield reinforcements this summer.  Jorginho departed in the winter window and Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic followed the Italy international through the exit door ahead of the start of the season.

At the same time, Chelsea’s approach to recruitment remains puzzling. Caicedo is going to cost them an enormous fee and the wisdom of handing him an eight-year contract - no matter the supposed Financial Fair Play-related advantages - remains up for debate.

Chelsea have spent an extraordinary amount of money since Todd Boehly’s takeover and this deal for Lavia would raise eyebrows, regardless of the player’s quality.

Chelsea definitely want him though, and they are available at 2/5 with football betting sites to get their man.

Exploring Romeo Lavia Next Club Odds: Liverpool Positioned As Strong Contenders

For a brief time last week, it looked like Liverpool had secured the services of Moises Caicedo.

A £110m offer was accepted by Brighton & Hove Albion and Jurgen Klopp seemed cautiously optimistic when he was asked about the Ecuador international in his pre-weekend press conference.

But there was another twist to come after it emerged that Caicedo preferred a move to Chelsea, the club that had been tracking him for weeks.

The Blues duly upped their bid to £115m and are now on the verge for completing a deal for a player who Brighton acquired for around 1/25th of that price just two and a half years ago.

Liverpool have therefore turned their attention back to Lavia. They have already had multiple bids turned down as Southampton stood by their valuation of the player.

But Monday brought a breakthrough, as reports confirmed that the Reds had seen their £60m proposal accepted. However, Liverpool are still only 15/8 second favourites at the time of writing, but this could be a close-run thing.

Their need is greater than Lavia’s other suitors, yet that does not necessarily mean Klopp will get his way. Liverpool fans will be crossing their fingers as they await a decision.

Will Romeo Lavia Move To Man City? Betting Odds Shed Light On His Next Club

The transfer sagas involving Caicedo and Lavia have been remarkable and no one would rule out another late twist in the race to sign the Belgian.

Having said that, it would be a huge shock if another team entered the battle at this late stage of proceedings.

Pep Guardiola

Manchester City’s squad is surprisingly light and they would be an attractive proposition for Lavia, who may feel he has unfinished business at the Eithad Stadium after being sold in 2022.

But it would not be very City-like for them to make a last-gasp bid for a player who would probably not get in their strongest starting XI.

That is why the Premier League champions are rank outsiders at 33/1 with new betting sites.

Decoding Romeo Lavia’s Transfer Prospects: Where Will The Southampton Star End Up Next?

Similarly, it is difficult to envisage a scenario whereby one of Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle or Manchester United (all 33/1 on betting apps) suddenly joins Chelsea and Liverpool in the race for Lavia.

Arsenal have done the bulk of their business already. Tottenham could be in the market for another midfielder, but they would probably be Lavia’s third choice after Chelsea and Liverpool.

Newcastle have taken a measured approach to recruitment since the Saudi takeover and already look well stocked in midfield.

Finally, Man Utd have Casemiro in the position that Lavia played for Southampton last term.
