Steven Gerrard Next Club Odds: Rangers Favourites To Lure Liverpool Legend

Steven Gerrard has departed as head coach of Al Ettifaq by mutual consent and betting sites are already offering odds on his next destination.

The former Liverpool and England midfielder joined the Saudi Arabian club in July 2023 and signed a two-year contract extension in January 2024, meant to last until 2027.

However, the 44-year-old leaves with Al Ettifaq in 12th place in the 18-team Saudi Pro League, just five points above the relegation places.

Gerrard led Al Ettifaq to sixth place in his first season, but this campaign they have struggled, winning just twice in their last 14 league games.

He had previously guided Rangers to their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years in 2021 and then became Aston Villa manager in November 2021 but was dismissed after just 13 wins from 40 games.

As the former Champions League winner looks for his next managerial challenge, we look at some of the options available to him.

Rangers Return On The Cards?

The Liverpool icon started his managerial career at Ibrox and is fondly remembered for guiding them to a Premiership title win in 2021

He left later that year for a crack at the Premier League with Aston Villa but lasted less than a year before being sacked.

Current manager Philippe Clement has been under pressure this season after struggling domestically.

So a return to Ibrox for the man who will always be credited with stopping Celtic winning 10 titles in a row could be beneficial for both parties and can be backed at 6/4 with betting apps.

Wycombe Waiting For Next Leader

After club legend Matt Bloomfield left Adams Park to become Luton Town’s new boss, Wycombe Wanderers are now actively looking for his replacement.

The club are currently second in League One, vying with the likes of Birmingham City and Wrexham for a place in the Championship.

They may not be one of the most attractive clubs in English football, but they are more than capable of punching above their weight as their current league position shows.

With someone boasting the profile and stature of Gerrard at the helm, they might be able to attract some bigger names to Buckinghamshire as they look to mix it with their bigger spending rivals.

The Chairboys are currently 7/4 with football betting sites in the Steven Gerrard next club odds.

Portsmouth Could Be Perfect Platform

Following promotion from League One last season, Portsmouth (2/1) were hoping to establish themselves back in the second tier this year.

But John Mousinho's side have struggled for form all season and after suffering four defeats in their last six games, now find themselves just above the relegation places.

If Gerrard is looking to rebuild his reputation in English football, then a drop down the divisions might be a necessity and a club the size of Portsmouth could offer him the platform to match his ambitions.

Swansea The Ultimate Challenge

Luke Williams is under increasing pressure to keep his job as manager of Swansea City.

The Swans currently sit in the bottom half of the Championship table and have not won in six games in all competitions.

For a man who was reported to be on £15 million a year in the Saudi Pro League, the challenge that would await him might not seem too appealing initially.

But if Gerrard really wants to prove himself in the dugout, then south Wales could be the place to do just that at odds of 9/4.

Derby Popular Destination For England Greats

Derby is another former Premier League club who find themselves struggling in the second tier of English football.

With pressure mounting on manager Paul Warne after a run of six consecutive league defeats, Gerrard is 5/2 to follow in the footsteps of former England teammates Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard and make Pride Park his next destination.

Other possibilities include Bolton (3/1), Tranmere (5/1), Motherwell (6/1), Burnley (8/1) and Leicester City (10/1).
