US Ryder Cup Captain Odds: Who Could Lead American Revenge Mission In Ireland?

The search is on to replace Keegan Bradley as the next United States Ryder Cup captain after Europe became the first team since 2012 to win away from home.

Europe held what seemed to be an unassailable 11½ -4½ lead heading into Sunday’s singles, which turned out to be 12-5 when Viktor Hovland pulled out with a neck injury before play got under way.

However, only Ludvig Aberg returned a full point for Luke Donald’s side from the 11 matches and it needed Shane Lowry to sink the putt for a half against Russell Henley to ensure the Europeans retained the Ryder Cup.

Tyrrell Hatton later picked up a half point to secure the Cup outright, but the big question is who will be leading the Americans in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland?

Tiger Woods has been installed as the early 5/4 favourite on golf betting sites to replace Bradley.

Here, we look at some of the candidates for the role and the latest USA Ryder Cup captain odds.

USA Ryder Cup Captain Odds: Tiger Woods

Woods was offered the opportunity to lead the USA in New York, but turned it down because of his new PGA Tour commitments.

However, the 15-time major winner is open to leading the team at some point.

He said: "That does not mean I wouldn’t want to captain a team in the future. If and when I feel it is the right time, I will put my hat in the ring for this committee to decide."

Three-time European Ryder Cup winner Graeme McDowell believes Woods will be in charge in County Limerick despite his poor record in the competition as a player.

Woods was part of just one winning team in eight appearances and lost 21 of his 37 matches over that period.

That said, his aura would surely galvanise a team desperate to avoid losing for a third successive time.

USA Ryder Cup Captain Odds: Brandt Snedeker

Brandt Snedeker was part of the USA team that capitulated in spectacular fashion at Medinah in 2012, but made amends by winning all three of his matches in an emphatic victory at Hazeltine four years later.

The 44-year-old from Nashville was a vice-captain at the 2024 Presidents Cup and Bethpage Black, so he has already got a taste for acting as part of a leadership team.

Snedeker will also captain the US team in the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah, so will the PGA of America’s executive committee decide to go down the continuity route for the trip to Ireland?

Highly respected by his peers, Snedeker received the PGA Tour’s Payne Stewart Award in 2024, an annual presentation for golfers who embody character, charity and sportsmanship.

Snedeker is 2/1 second favourite in the next USA Ryder Cup captain odds.

USA Ryder Cup Captain Odds: Steve Stricker

Europe’s decision to keep faith with Luke Donald paid dividends, so it’s possible the PGA of America may bring back Steve Stricker, who led the team to a record 19-9 victory at Whistling Straits in 2021.

Stricker was vice-captain in the three previous Ryder Cups and again in 2023, but his name was absent from Bradley’s list this time around.

The 21-man committee that decides who should lead the country in the Ryder Cup may think the time may be right to bring back Stricker, who is 5/2 for the captaincy.

The 58-year-old from Wisconsin played in three Ryder Cups, saving his best performance for Celtic Manor in 2010 when he was the USA’s joint top points scorer with Woods (3-1-0).

USA Ryder Cup Captain Odds: Jim Furyk

Jim Furyk led the USA in Paris where Europe won by seven points, but he was part of the winning teams in 2016 and 2021 when he acted as vice-captain.

More recently 'The Grinder captained the US team to a 10th consecutive victory at the 2024 Presidents Cup in Canada where seven members of the 2025 Ryder Cup side were playing.

Furyk made the controversial decision to include Bradley instead of Justin Thomas and the favour was returned for Bethpage where the 2003 US Open champion was a vice-captain.

Having been part of the last 14 Ryder Cups, Furyk’s experience would be invaluable at Adare Manor and he is 4/1 to be appointed captain.

USA Ryder Cup Captain Odds: Stewart Cink

Cink was disappointed to be bypassed for the Ryder Cup captaincy in favour of Bradley, but could he get the opportunity in 2027?

The 2009 Open champion has played in five Ryder Cups and was a vice-captain to Zach Johnson in Rome, so he has plenty of experience of the biennial duel between Europe and the United States.

Cink is available at 5/1, just ahead of Matt Kuchar, who ended a run of three successive defeats as a Ryder Cup player with victory at Hazeltine.

Two years later, he was one of Furyk’s assistant in France, but is 6/1 to land the top job.

Webb Simpson was one of Bradley’s assistants on Long Island and is 7/1, while the much-loved Fred Couples is 8/1 on betting sites.

Couples has been vice-captain of the US team on three occasions, most recently at Whistling Straits and he successfully led his country to three victories in the Presidents Cup.

Bradley may be given a second chance at 10/1, although he would love to get the opportunity to compete in the Ryder Cup for a third time, having decided against being a player-captain.
