Who Will Be The Next Celebrity To Join Radio 1?

Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing was recently confirmed as Jordan North's replacement on Radio 1's Going Home drivetime show.

The announcement has led to many betting sites to compile odds for the next celebrity to join the station.

Laing's news sparked a backlash from some, who are under the impression he was simply handpicked after appearing on the E4 reality TV show.

However, Jamie has recently insisted he has been "gunning for" the job for the last eight years, after he was previously rejected by the station for being "too posh."

He told MailOnline: "I trialled for Radio 1 eight years ago, I honestly did, and the feedback was, 'Jamie, you're just too posh.'"

Jamie has had plenty of practice on the airwaves after presenting several BBC Sounds podcasts, and in October 2022 he replaced Mollie King on the station when she went on maternity leave.

Mollie was best known as one fifth of girl group The Saturdays before she landed a Saturday show on Radio 1 in February 2018, alongside former Xtra Factor presenter Matt Edmondson.

Last week, Radio 1 confirmed Matt and Mollie's show will now air Monday to Thursday afternoons from July.

As a result of Mollie and Jamie's move to the popular station and their subsequent success, betting sites have been speculating about which other celebrities might follow in their footsteps.

Zara To Make Radio Move?

Former Love Island star Zara McDermott is the 6/4 favourite on specials betting sites to be the next celebrity to make the move over to Radio 1.

Following her Love Island stint in 2018, Zara appeared on The X Factor: Celebrity and Made in Chelsea, alongside her boyfriend Sam Thompson, who is a presenter on Hits Radio.

But it's not her relationship with Sam that looks likely to earn her a spot on the airwaves.

BBC bosses are clearly big fans of Zara after enlisting her for the 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing last year, and she has also made several hard-hitting documentaries for the BBC, titled Revenge Porn, Uncovering Rape Culture, and Disordered Eating.

And it would be no surprise if it led to Zara presenting a serious radio segment or programme on one of Britain's best-loved stations.

Ice To See You On The Radio, Miles

Like Jamie, fellow Made in Chelsea star Miles Nazaire could also end up on Radio 1 one day.

He is just 2/1 second favourite on betting apps to do so, and his stock may rise as early as Sunday if he becomes the latest Dancing on Ice champion.

Miles - who has also appeared on Celebrity Ex on the Beach and Celebs Go Dating - is currently the favourite to land the ice-skating title, which will do no harm to his career.

Social media influencer and presenter GK Barry is 3/1 to make a move to Radio 1.

She has become well down for her TikTok posts as well as hosting the Saving Grace podcast, on which she interviews celebrities.

It could prove to be the perfect practice ground for a go at a Radio 1 gig in the future.

Chloe Vs The World

Like GK, former Love Island star Chloe Burrows has also earned a reputation as a top podcaster.

She fronts her own series, Chloe Vs The World, in which she also interviews celebrity guests, and is just 4/1 fourth favourite on UK betting sites to be the next star spinning tracks on Radio 1.

Singer Jessie Ware (6/1) has also become known for her podcast, Table Manners, which she co-hosts with her mum Lennie, while Nella Rose (10/1) launched podcast Pressed on BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2021.

Vick Hope and Katie Thistleton will co-host Radio 1's Going Home drivetime show alongside Jamie. Katie cut her teeth on CBBC, which is also where former Strictly star Rhys Stephenson works.

He is 5/1 to be the next star to join Radio 1, and such a role could be the ideal position for the presenter and actor.
