PGA Championship Golf Betting Tips: 3 Picks For The 2022 Major

PGA Championship Betting Tips:

The 104th PGA Championship takes place this week with the world’s leading golfers competing in the second major of the professional golf season.

The Southern Hills Country Club will be a typically fiendish test for players who are hoping to secure top spot in what looks to be a competitive field.

As always, the best golf betting sites will be aiming to offer lots of extra places when it comes to each-way betting on the PGA Championship, while there are already lots of pre-event markets now available. Interestingly, last year’s winner Phil Mickelson will not be lining up in Tulsa, with the American having previously withdrawn from the Masters.

Can Scottie Scheffler Add PGA to Masters Success?

It’s no surprise to find Scottie Scheffler trading as the outright favourite with the majority of betting sites, with the Masters champion available at single figure odds with some bookmakers, although there are other firms who are prepared to chalk up 13.0 and it’s worth comparing the latest odds to get the best price.

The trends are strong when it comes to Scheffler on the basis that he’s been the outstanding performer on the PGA Tour this year and landed a maiden major victory at Augusta. Furthermore, the Ryder Cup participant has finished in the top 10 in his only two appearances at a PGA Championship, with a tied-fourth showing in 2020 before being tied-eighth in 2021.

Jon Rahm Also Vying for PGA Championship Favouritism

If anyone is going to stop Scheffler, perhaps Jon Rahm is the man. This is someone who could end up having a strong rivalry with his adversary over the years, with the Spaniard certainly respected by the bookies and we think that the European Ryder Cup lynchpin has to be on any betting shortlist.

Rahm has tied 19th and tied 8th in the past two PGA tournaments, while his major record last season was excellent and included a win in the US Open and a top 10 finish in all four of the big events. He could be an each-way bet to nothing this week.

McIlroy, Thomas and Spieth Next in the PGA Championship Betting

Jordan Spieth has had a rollercoaster time of things in the past few years after initially breaking on to the scene and winning major tournaments, although it appears that the Texan has found some excellent form just in time for this clash at Southern Hills.

Despite his problems, Spieth has worked extremely hard on his game. If he wins the PGA Championship, he will become a Grand Slam winner and all aspects of his game appear to be in excellent nick. It’s noticeable that there is plenty of money coming in for the American in the PGA Championship betting.

As for Justin Thomas, the course is being likened to Royal Portrush and that could be perfect for a player who regularly seems to feature at the top of the leaderboard. He has won a PGA Championship before and performed well in the recent Byron Nelson which bodes well, while he has done his due diligence when it comes to this golf course.

Rory McIlroy will always have his backers and the way in which the Northern Irishman was able to finish like a train at Augusta was massive. We know that Rory can be very streaky and often throws in a bad round to stop himself from winning a major, although he has a brilliant PGA Championship record a brace of wins and an additional four top 10 finishes.

It’s now ten years since the 33-year-old won his first PGA Championship before claiming a second title two years later and the main negative is his recent record in the tournament where he’s only had one top 10 finish in the last seven years.

Smith, Matsuyama and Koepka Could Be Good Each-Way Bets

Brooks Koepka catches the eye at 41.0 to win the 2022 PGA Championship and the four-time champion is certainly capable of going deep in the tournament. It’s a gift of a price if he is fit and the fact that he withdrew from the Byron Nelson might not be a bad thing considering many other players avoided this event.

Koepka should appreciate the conditions at Southern Hills and there’s little risk in backing the 41.0, while Hideki Matsuyama is another player that can go well at a bigger price. The Japanese star has actually won two tournaments this year and perhaps this has been overlooked because of Scheffler’s recent streak.

Matsuyama comes out top in the chipping stats which we’re led to believe will be important in this tournament and he has demonstrated at Augusta that he can achieve success in the major events, and with some betting sites going as many as 12 places, he looks a solid each-way bet.

Cameron Smith is a player who now features near the top of the betting market, with the Australian having won the Sentry Tournament of Champions at the beginning of the year and there is also The Players Championship victory in March which should see him go close after tying third in the Masters.

Tiger Woods Aiming to Make the Cut at PGA Championship

Tiger Woods managed to play all four rounds at the Masters after a fairly strong opening shift, although the legendary veteran is available at monster odds of 55.0 to win the PGA Championship despite the fact that he claims to be feeling stronger after more rehab that should help him get in the mix.

It will be intriguing to see whether Woods can challenge higher up the leaderboard this time around, as all eyes will once again be on the 15 time major champion as he aims to take a step closer to Jack Nicklaus' record.
