Betway Launches New Sports Betting, Casino Site in Ontario

Betway’s online sportsbook and internet casino is now live in Ontario, making it one of 20 operators now taking bets in Ontario’s new iGaming market.  

Betway users must now use the new website in order to place their bets. The company had been warning its users the change was coming and that users would need to make new accounts in order to wager on the website.  

“This means you’ll no longer be able to bet on Betway.COM,” the company said in an email to its players. “Next time you visit the site, you’ll be prompted to confirm Ontario as your location and begin the switch to Betway.CA. You may also be asked to verify your identity, so we recommend having your passport and driving license ready.” 

In April, Betway received iGaming registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario but was not ready to launch until Monday. Betway is now listed as an approved operator on the iGaming Ontario website.  

To celebrate the new launch, betway is offering numerous promotions to new users in Ontario. 

Betway in Canada 

The betway brand is well-known in Canada. According to a report by Morgan Stanley analysts, betway’s share of monthly app downloads in Canada during April was up to 51% among gaming operators. But that figure fell to 4% in April as Ontario introduced its new regulated gaming market, bringing more competition to the province and country. 

“Canada is currently our biggest market, and obviously the regulatory environment there is key,” Richard Hasson, president and CEO of Betway’s parent company, Super Group, said during an April 13 conference call. “Currently, only Ontario is in the process of regulating, and we're busy doing what we need to in order to comply with the requirements for that market. 

Betway also has a partnership with the NHL. Through the deal, Betway receives brand exposure on NHL game broadcasts with in-ice brand position and a camera-visible dasher board. The partnership also gives Betway the rights to use NHL marks, logos and official designations to create authentic NHL fan and consumer marketing programs. Betway also has access to a full portfolio of NHL-controlled media assets to design digital, social and email marketing campaigns to drive new customer acquisition.
