The NHL opens up in two Canadian venues today.

Montreal and Edmonton will be hosting games. Most expect a few goals to be scored.

As Tuesday night showed us with the late game, patience is a virtue. Let us begin.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Montreal Canadiens

A few sites were teetering with the Over at 7.0. For Canadian Sports Bettors, that had to jolt the plans a little.

Keep in mind that the possibility is still there. If one sees 6.5 at a reasonable number, make a small wager. Seeing the 7.0 was a little concerning on Tuesday. That does not mean a crazy 5-4 game is eliminated here. However, it does mean money bet indicated a swing was coming.

It is not often one sees a Toronto team on the road with a moneyline number at 1.36. Even the puckline for Ontario Sports Bettors comes in at slightly less than even money. Thankfully, this is not a home game in some ways. Maybe that takes some of the pressure off the Maple Leafs. Either way, Montreal has an uphill climb for this tilt, as they will most of this season.

Expect the Canadiens to be entertaining, which feels like a code word to say they will score and give up quite a few goals. Martin St. Louis will have this team ready to play, but Montreal does not have that scoring or defensive depth. Could they do it for some games? Absolutely! That is why one has to feel for those trying to make longer-term wagers.

When the race to two or three goals is not much of a value wager, what else is there? Honestly, options still exist. The exact goals amount prop is one. Also, period Over/Unders are available.

For this game, the prevailing thought is to run with the Over at 6.5 goals at 1.76. If that creeps below 1.7, then run.

Watch to see if Toronto Over 3.5 goals opens up. Right now, that is not available on Sports Interaction. Even the third period at 3+ goals comes in at 2.11. That is not too rough to take.

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers surprised some experts by making the Western Conference Final last season. Yes, the Oilers were swept by the Colorado Avalanche, but this team learned a lot. Now, is that truly the case?

Jack Campbell was brought in to solidify the goaltending. Whether that happens remains to be seen. Elias Pettersson, Bo Horvat, and J.T. Miller will not make life easy on the new goalie in Edmonton.

In the other corner are Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who combined for over 230 regular season points and 60+ postseason points. That is a mouthful. Thatcher Demko anticipates this to be anything but easy.

Here is where rational thought may go sideways. The last five meetings have gone to the Under. All but one combined for five goals. Is a breakout in store?

With the Over at 1.99 for seven or more goals scored, Canadian bettors have a decent choice. Also, BetMGM begs the question, will both teams tally a goal in the first period? That comes in at 2.55.

Some Random Wagers For Canadian Sports Bettors Tonight

Here are some early ideas:

  • Edmonton and Vancouver Over 6.5 goals - 1.99
  • Toronto and Montreal Over 6.5 goals - 1.76
  • Vancouver and Edmonton both score one goal - 2.55

Good luck, and take a look at our previews and much more.
