Leafs Insights

The Leafs are coming off a big 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night, arguably the best game of the season when measuring a commitment to team defence.  They were forced to do that of course – their best defenceman Morgan Rielly is now serving a five-game suspension (tonight will be game No. 2 of that), and RW Mitch Marner and C John Tavares were both out of the lineup due to illness. Both Marner and Tavares are listed as day-to-day. RW Calle Jarnkrok remains out with a fractured finger, as does D Conor Timmins (mononucleosis).

Bobby McMann, a recent call-up from the AHL, scored three goals in the win over the Blues. Head coach Sheldon Keefe put together a No. 1 line of C Auston Matthews, LW Matthew Knies and RW William Nylander for the Blues game and we’ll have to see how the injuries dictate things for tonight. That’s something to monitor over the day before you put any bets down.

These are tense times in Leafland. The trade deadline is fast approaching (March 8). The top three teams in each division make the playoffs, followed by two wildcard spots. The Leafs currently sit one point back of the Tampa Bay Lightning for third in the Atlantic Division. They hold down a wildcard spot with 62 points – just two points ahead of the Detroit Red Wings, who hold the last one, and just four points ahead of the New Jersey Devils, who have won two games in a row.

🏒 Bet on Flyers vs. Maple Leafs at DraftKings 🏒

Ilya Samsonov is confirmed as starting goalie tonight, with Martin Jones and Joseph Woll injured. The Leafs called up Dennis Hildeby from the minors to back up Samsonov (10-4-5, two shutouts, 3.26 GAA and .880 SV%). F Alex Steeves has also been called up from minors on an emergency basis.

Flyers Insights

The Flyers are currently in a playoff spot – third in the Metropolitan Division, with 64 points – and have won four in a row, most recently a 5-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Monday. The power play though has been struggling and went 0-7 on Monday.

🏒 Bet on Flyers vs. Maple Leafs at FanDuel 🏒

D Rasmus Ristolainen and LW Tyson Foerster are day-to-day with injuries. Samuel Ersson (15-8-3, with three shutouts, 2.49 GAA and .901 SV%) is listed as probable to start in goal tonight for the Flyers.

Player Props

On the sports betting front, according to BetMGM, Auston Matthews Over 1.5 Points (2.40), Matthews Over 4.5 Shots (2.10), and William Nylander Over 1.5 Points (2.10) are among the most bet player props.

And at DraftKings, Matthews Anytime Goalscorer (1.74), Matthews First Goalscorer (7.00), Nylander Under 1.5 Points (1.74) are most bet props.

Leafs vs. Flyers Betting Odds: Our Picks & Predictions

  • Moneyline 1.65 (Leafs), 2.30 (Flyers)
  • Spread -1.5 2.50 (Leafs), +1.5 1.55 (Flyers)
  • Over/Under 6.5

If you’re looking at NHL bets, the Flyers are a strong road team – 15-7-4. But the Flyers don’t have any players that stand out like the Leafs’ core four, so they’re counting more on structure and work ethic. Their leading scorer is Travis Konecny, with 25. We are also banking on the Leafs’ power play tonight, which ranks fourth in the NHL (26.2 per cent). The Flyers have the worst-ranked PP in the NHL, at 12.6 per cent. The other night against the Blues, the Leafs went 0-2. The Leafs have won two in a row at home, six out of their last 10. Our pick is the Leafs to win.
