The Masters Tournament was established on 22 March 1934, with amateur champion Bobby Jones behind the creation of this competition. This has always been an invitational event, which means that the field is significantly smaller than in the other three major golf tournaments.
Previous winners of the green jacket have a lifetime invite to The Masters, while winners of the other three majors receive a five-year Masters exemption and those who win The Players Championship get a three-year exemption. The top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings are all invited to participate.
It’s fair to say that The Masters is probably the most iconic golf tournament in the world. Augusta National is a beautifully scenic course and each hole is named after a tree with which there is an association.
