Rory McIlroy PGA Championship Odds: Can any Irish player win at Oak Hill?

Rory McIlroy knows what is required to win a PGA Championship. After all, he was in the winners’ enclosure at Kiawah Island in 2012 and then landed a second success in this competition two years later when securing a triumph at Valhalla when beating Phil Mickelson by a single stroke.

McIlroy will head to Oak Hill Country Club as one of the outright favourites in the PGA Championship betting to land a sixth major, although Rory backers will have had their fingers burnt after a disappointing 2023 Masters where the 34-year-old fell well short of the required standard.

Missing the cut wasn’t on the cards and Rory was home for the weekend after a poor show at Augusta.

The Northern Irishman is still a potential winner as he continues a search for that elusive fifth major, with McIlroy having made the cut in the PGA in the past six years.

Rory also tied eighth when the PGA Championship was last hosted at Oak Hill in 2013 and that demonstrates that his game is clearly suited to the New York course.

It’s tough to weigh up Rory’s chances, considering that he’s not had a spectacular start to 2023, missing the cut and the finishing 47th in the past two events.

Favourite backers will therefore be dissuaded from adding him to their shortlist, although his familiarity with the New York course including an Oak Hill membership can’t be underestimated.

Lowry Trying to Add Another Major to his Collection

You also don’t have to look too far down the betting market to find Shane Lowry trading as one of the favourites with betting sites to win the 2023 PGA Championship.

The Irishman has definite each-way claims based on some of his recent performances in this tournament and he looks a solid wager to make the cut considering he’s done so in the previous six renewals.

Lowry is a major winner after landing the Open Championship in 2019 and he was tied 16th in the 2023 Masters, with the 36-year-old having won the BMW PGA Championship as recently as September 2022 when he managed to edge out McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

He also played in the 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill and finished 54th.

Does Seamus have the Power for Oak Hill?

Seamus Power also flies the flag for the Republic of Ireland, with the 36-year-old having enjoyed a breakthrough 2022 which saw him finish in the top 10 in the PGA Championship at Southern Hills.

Tying in ninth place was a fantastic achievement considering this was an event debut and perhaps there is more to come.

The Waterford golfer had that winning feeling back in October last year in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, with Power turning out in the 2023 Masters and making the cut before going on to tie in 46th position.

Golf betting sites certainly respect the chances of a player who recently finished 18th at Quail Hollow and he’ll want to challenge for a Ryder Cup spot.

Harrington Hoping for Fourth Major

In 2008, Padraig Harrington was able to land a major success in the PGA Championship and the Irishman will now look to achieve an unlikely triumph 15 years later, as his odds of 400/1 with new betting sites suggest.

That win at Oakland Hills is one of three major successes experienced by the 51-year-old, although he was tied fourth in this competition as recently as 2021.

Indeed, Harrington is now confident of further success after winning the US Senior Open in 2022 and he ended up finishing second in the Senior Tour Order of Merit.

The player can still be competitive in major tournaments providing that his knee can withstand 72 holes during the course of a week and it would be a fairytale story if he was able to land a fourth major success at Oak Hill.
