BETBY To Power MOVE Cup Chess Event With Magnus Carlsen In Barcelona

Sportsbook supplier BETBY has become the powering sponsor of the MOVE Cup, a new elite rapid chess tournament in Barcelona in January 2027.
The supplier provides sportsbook technology to operators on the betting sites market, and the deal adds a chess event to its brand activity.
BETBY announced the deal on October 21, 2026, in a company statement following a press conference in Barcelona.
The Tournament
The MOVE Cup will bring eight leading grandmasters to Barcelona on January 19 and 20, 2027, during ICE Barcelona week.
Magnus Carlsen, BETBY's global brand ambassador, is confirmed as the first player, and the other seven will be named individually in the coming weeks.
According to the tournament website, the main event is held at Espai Diagonal. Day two is a seven-round round robin, followed by best-of-three semi-finals and a best-of-five final on day three.
Public tickets are due to go on sale in November.
Prize Fund And Charity
The event carries a €300,000 prize fund, matched by an equal €300,000 contribution to the MOVE Foundation.
The foundation supports chess development, young talent and research on chess and mental health.
The tournament launched together with the foundation as part of its mission to promote chess worldwide.
The organisers have said the full programme will be announced in November. They are also offering sponsorship packages, with partners who sign up before November 1 receiving discounts on future editions.
ICE Barcelona Link
The programme opens on January 18 with a charity activation at BETBY's ICE Barcelona stand, 5K20.
Donors, sponsors, and leading players will play hand-and-brain games, in which each sponsor team pairs with a grandmaster to raise funds for the foundation. That day is open only to ICE Barcelona visitors.
Carlsen first joined BETBY at ICE Barcelona in 2025 and returned in 2026, when the supplier hosted him with Hikaru Nakamura and Levy Rozman for a chess activation.

BETBY's Position
BETBY chief executive and co-founder Leonid Pertsovskiy said the company wanted to bring the best players back to Barcelona for something bigger after the 2026 event.
He said the aim is for the MOVE Cup to become a regular fixture on the global chess calendar.
The sponsorship follows other recent BETBY product news, including the launch of SlotBets, which blends sportsbook and online casino play.
