How does the FIFA World Cup Work?

FIFA's six continental confederations organise their own qualifying competitions and all 211 FIFA member associations are eligible to enter qualification. The reigning World Cup champions France will also go through qualifying stages as normal, but hosts Qatar are given an automatic berth in the Group Stage.

Eventually, the 32 teams who qualify will be placed into eight groups of four teams, who will then play each other in a round-robin format. The top two teams in each group will advance to the last 16, from which point the 2022 World Cup will become a straight knockout tournament with extra time and penalties to decide the winners should a match be drawn after 90 minutes.

Can I Bet AntePost on World Cup 2022?

Every four years, the same major nations will target winning the FIFA World Cup and many betting customers like to try out their luck with ante-post betting and predict who will eventually be crowned champions. The 2022 World Cup Winner betting market tends to be very competitive and it means you can get a decent price on any team triumphing once the tournament ends.

The first step for many punters is to create a shortlist of teams that you think can win the World Cup, with serial winners Brazil, Germany, and Spain likely to be among them. In addition, other previous victors like Italy and Argentina, as well as outsiders such as England, Belgium, and Portugal, will be worthy of consideration.

Once you have narrowed down your search for a winner, you can then decide which World Cup teams appeal the most at the current prices. You might fancy France but find that they are 11/2 compared to the 11/1 on offer for Italy that would offer a bigger return from the same stake.

Can I Bet In-Play on World Cup 2022?

Yes. Many football fans have found that waiting for a match to kick off gives them an advantage when they finally place bets on the action. Doing so will allow you to gauge the pattern of play and whether a particular side is dominating the match before deciding which way to bet on the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Every bookmaker will offer In-Play betting on the World Cup and many of the markets on offer are the same as you’ll find before kick-off, albeit at slightly different odds. The 1 X 2 market will be available until one team goes a few goals ahead of course, while you can also expect to find markets such as Next Team to Score, Over / Under Cards, Over / Under Goals and Next Player to Score opening up once the game is underway.

Types of Betting Available for World Cup 2022

One area an alert punter can capitalise on during a World Cup is by looking at games pitting one of the traditional favourites against a minor nation. While picking the winner of such a clash is straightforward, it will not be well-priced, but those looking a little deeper will still be able to find good value.

You will, of course, need to understand which strikers are most likely to play for the leading nations, as well as analysing their respective paths to the final or at least latter stages. Then, armed with that information, picking a potential Golden Boot winner suddenly becomes much easier and you’ll have a stronger idea of who to back.

Tips for Betting on the FIFA World Cup 2022

As with any major sporting competition, the unpredictable nature of the World Cup group stage can make the outright winner of the competition particularly difficult to bet on. Top online bookmakers offer different betting options during the group stages, which allows punters to pick the country they believe will win the group and the countries they believe will qualify from each group.

When betting on the opening rounds, it is important to look at the condition of each team and in particular how they performed in the World Cup qualifiers – or other tournaments – in the preceding years. Every World Cup tends to see one or two big surprises in the early stages, so these options might be better than looking at individual matches.

However, once the competition progresses, the stakes go up and picking outright winners occasionally becomes easier as a team who advanced against the odds suddenly reverts to form against an established powerhouse of international football.

Given that the field will have narrowed and the stronger teams will have shown their quality, betting on the outright winner may prove a little more manageable at this stage too. In addition, many bookmakers will offer ‘each-way’ bets (similar to golf betting) that allows a punter to predict two bets, one that the country will win the tournament and one for them to reach the final.

Placing a bet via that method might be the way to go if you are still finding it difficult to distinguish an outright winner.

The FIFA World Cup is a competition held every four years for national teams who are members of FIFA. Competitors qualify for the competition by playing in group stages organised by their continental governing bodies, with each area given a specific number of players based on past performances.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition of the tournament not to be held in May, June, or July. Instead, due to the weather conditions of the host nation, this edition is instead scheduled for late November until mid-December. It is also to be played in a reduced timeframe of around 28 days, with the final being held on 18 December 2022, which is also a national holiday in Qatar.

The 2022 World Cup is being held in Qatar, and is the first edition of the tournament to be held in the Arab world and the first in a Muslim-majority country.

Brazil, the team who have won the World Cup more times than any other nation, are currently favourites among football bookmakers to lift the trophy at odds of around 11/2 for the Selecao to add a sixth title to their honour roll.
