UK Gambling Commission Suspends BresBet And Bet St George Licences
The Gambling Commission has suspended the operating licences of bookmakers BresBet and Bet St George, citing suspected failings in social responsibility protocols and anti-money laundering controls.
The suspensions took effect on August 28, 2026, and both operators now face a formal review of their licences under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005.
According to the Gambling Commission's own statement, the regulator's enquiries into BresBet Ltd, which runs bresbet.com, and Bet St George Ltd, which operates betstgeorge.com, revealed suspected shortcomings in both companies' social responsibility and anti-money laundering controls. BresBet's operating licence number is 065252-R-340096-002, while Bet St George's is 067818-R-341699-001.
The Commission said the suspension will remain in place until it is satisfied both businesses have addressed the concerns. Both operators have been told to continue treating customers fairly and to keep them informed of any developments that affect them.
What It Means For Customers
Customers of both brands retain access to their accounts, including the ability to withdraw funds, and both sites remain contactable through their respective platforms.
The Commission's public register entry for Bet St George confirms its four remote licences, covering bingo, casino and both standard betting categories, were suspended on the same date, having first been granted on December 10, 2025.
Bet St George only entered the UK market in March 2026, positioning itself as a patriotic English sports betting brand timed to launch ahead of the Cheltenham Festival.
Its suspension arrives roughly six months later, making it one of the shortest operating spells for a newly licensed UK betting site in recent memory. BresBet, by contrast, has held a UK licence since 2021.
