Coronation Street Odds: David Platt And Daisy Midgeley To Die?

The estate agents in Coronation Street must have one of the toughest jobs on the planet trying to sell houses in Weatherfield.

Just days ago, a fire ripped through No 8 Coronation Street and this week Carla Connor (Alison King) is being kidnapped by her own brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) as part of his gun-toting prison escape attempt.

If that wasn't enough - spoiler alert - Corrie legend David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) will be left fighting for their lives after he is mowed down by a car.

It's known that Charlotte and co-stars Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw) and Colson Smith (Craig Tinker) are all leaving the soap this year.

But news of the upcoming incident has sparked speculation on betting sites that Jack will also be departing the cobbles, 25 years after landing the role of David.

David To Die?

David is in a sticky position before he even makes contact with a motor in next week's Corrie.

The hairdresser has a huge debt with gangster Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor), who is planning to kill him for his life insurance.

With David down on his luck, he goes on a vodka binge in the Rovers Return, and stumbles out of the pub drunk and into the road.

Fortunately, David still has his wits about him enough to push pregnant Daisy out of the way of an incoming vehicle.

But both characters are left unconscious on the tarmac in the episode, which will be broadcast on March 5.

A flash-forward scene will see David in hospital fighting for his life and it doesn't look good for the legendary character.

Julia Goulding, who plays David's wife Shona Platt, has dropped a huge hint David will tragically meet his maker following the accident.

She told the press: "[For Shona], he's dead. He's going to bleed to death.

"There was a lot of blood. Jack was on the floor for a couple of days and we were both covered in this sticky, syrupy blood. I think we wore quite dark clothing as well to not upset compliance."

David is just 6/4 on betting apps to pass away, but could the character just be "out of action" for a while instead?

Julia added: "David's going to be either dead or out of action. I can't possibly say which. And with Max's sentencing and everything, [Shona's] putting out fires rather than being the fire."

Actor Jack has been through his fair share of death-defying stunts in Corrie - and this could be another to add to the list.

Soap super-fans are often warned in advance when an iconic character is departing - either through spoilers, a leaked story to the press or through the show's press team announcing such news in advance.

It would be a surprise if David was bumped off due to a car accident outside the Rovers in a random March episode, rather than something like an anniversary special with an even bigger stunt, and it's 4/6 he survives.

Daisy's New Chapter

However, things don't look so good for Daisy, with fans already aware Charlotte is quitting the cobbles at some point this year.

In January, she said in a statement: "My time at Coronation Street is something I’ll always cherish. After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.

"It’s been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much."

It was reported in The Sun at the time that Charlotte had informed bosses last year about her decision to leave the show, giving writers 12 months to come up with an exit storyline.

It's 8/11 that Daisy departs as a result of the accident, but she could be sticking around for a bit yet.

Corrie bosses may want to keep Daisy alive in case the 29-year-old actress opts to return to the soap in the future, much like how her on-screen step-mother Sally Ann Matthews did in 2015 after previously playing the character Jenny Connor from 1986-91.

And there are also reports that Catherine Tyldesley is to reprise her role as cobbles character Eva Price, whom she played from 2011-18, later this year.

It's 11/8 that Daisy doesn't die from the accident.
