Interactive Sports Resurgences Map

In recent weeks we’ve seen a downward turn from the apex of pandemic-related sports cancellations across the globe. In Europe, many professional football leagues have already made a return behind closed doors, while the Premier League has set its sights on a June 17th return date. Horse racing returned in Britain on June 1st and resumes today, June 8th, in Ireland.

What Sports Are Returning This Week?

Irish Racing

The first bout of Irish racing in 76 days kicks off at Naas today with an eight-race flat card, all of which will help the buildup to the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh on Friday. Mandatory face coverings will need to be worn at Naas by most of those in attendance. Only essential personnel will attend and health and thermal checks will be carried out on arrival.

PGA Tour

This week also sees the return of the PGA Tour for the Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Country Club in Forth Worth, Texas. The Tour has announced a number of health and safety measures for the event on June 11th, including no families of golfers being allowed at events and no on-site pro-ams.

La Liga

Makers of the FIFA video game series will provide audio for behind closed doors La Liga matches when it restarts on June 11th. There will also be virtual stands in which images of home fans will be displayed. Sevilla vs. Real Betis is the first clash up on Thursday while league leaders Barcelona will make their return visiting Real Mallorca on Saturday. It is expected that by playing games every day the league will wrap up by the end of July.
