14:55 Ayr – Black Friday – 1pt @ 12/1
Black Friday is aiming to end an almost two-year losing streak and carries plenty of risk when taking on younger, less exposed rivals. On the other hand, he is operating off a very low mark now 16lbs below his peak and I think there’s some value in his price. Returning to 6f will definitely help his cause as he was badly outpaced on decent ground over 5f at Musselburgh last week, which was no surprise.
He was beaten little more than a couple of lengths despite not being comfortable through the race and that followed a reasonable C&D run where his track position probably wasn’t a help. The ground was fast there as well, which he wouldn’t be totally happy on, and any rain that falls before racing will increase his chance. It’s tough to be certain but there’s enough in place to suggest 12/1 is very fair.

17:15 Ayr – Roman Blaze – 1pt @ 28/1
This could be a waste of a stake but I’m going to chance Roman Blaze at a price. He’s of limited ability, that much is a certainty, but the one glimmer of hope he had in his career to date came over C&D a few runs ago. He finished fifth on that occasion, beaten just four-lengths by a subsequent two-time winner, and shaped as if he might have more to come as a handicapper (it was his first start in one).
Connections then dropped him to 5f at Beverley next time, which didn’t work out as he’s too slow to cope with that, and last time he was running on the All-Weather back at 6f. It was a poor run, no doubt, but he was stuck on a wing and mightn’t be mad about the surface. Back here, with some cut in the ground hopefully slowing the others down, he may be worth a small bet in hope.
