14:05 Chester – Seantrabh – 1pt @ 10/3

Seantrabh has a good draw in stall three and his running style should be well suited to the demands of Chester’s 5f, so I’m hopeful that he’ll be heavily involved here. He will have to step forward on his handicap debut when behind Democracy Dilemma, but that was his first start for six-months and despite being solid in the market, the way he performed would suggest there’s improvement in the locker.

The other thing I think he’ll have in his favour is getting onto a turning track. All four of his runs to date have been on straight tacks but he has early pace, can travel along well and should be able to get into a better rhythm than most of the others if he can get to the front. It will be a fight for that lead but he might be the one to grab it and hopefully he’ll be staying there from the start to the finish.

We've Ranked The Best Betting Apps

15:45 Chester – Minnesota Lad – 1pt @ 20/1

Minnesota Lad is drawn a box or two higher than I’d ideally care to see but the price takes it into account and I’ll still take a chance. He’s one of few who haven’t had a run this term so his fitness is an unknown, but he ran a few promising races as a juvenile and was gelded since running his final race in November, which could be a source of improvement for just his third attempt in handicap company.

Early on, he looked sure to be able to make it into a 6f performer but didn’t come on for the step up in trip as hoped. He’s kept to 6f for this 3-year-old return but Chester’s track is so quick that it might be the perfect happy-medium for him, and will provide an end-to-end gallop to sit off. 81 should not be his limit in the longer term and if he can get a good position early doors, he may get involved late on.

16:55 Chester – Devasboy – 1pt @ 12/1

Devasboy could be worth chancing here. He was below-par at Ascot last week but that was a competitive 0-95 and he was ridden by an inexperienced apprentice. His previous start added a lot more hope, as he finished second at Windsor in a race that wasn’t run completely to suit his style of racing. It wouldn’t take a major improvement on that to see him get into the mix in this contest.

The big positive is returning to Chester, where his form when trained by Mark Johnston read 1-4-2, the second coming in a similarly big field handicap last September. The way he travelled around caught the eye and with a strong pace likely in this, he may find those up front coming back to him at the right time. His mark is workable, Ben Curtis takes over in the saddle and 12/1 is a play.
