13:30 Wolverhampton – Dubai Station – 1pt @ 15/2
Dubai Station has already come in a few points but he’s still worth a bet at 15/2. He made his debut for Stuart Williams four weeks ago and went off as the 7/2 co-favourite in a 5f handicap, but never had a chance of landing a blow after a slow start forced a position in rear. Those up top weren’t coming back, the finishing speed of the race being over 107%, and he probably did as well as he could given the circumstance presented.
Returning to 6f should be a positive and I like the pace makeup in here a lot more, with a few pacy types in opposition ensuring that those who need a proper tow should be getting one. I'm not as keen on his draw in 9 but Rossa Ryan is brilliant so hopefully it won’t be an issue! The horse is 3lbs below his last winning mark and Stuart Williams won’t take long to have him back on the right road.

14:05 Wolverhampton – Dark Moon Rising – 1pt @ 14/1
Dark Moon Rising is a high risk selection as he returns from a break after a spell that led to him losing his form completely on the turf. Trip and grade excuses are in place, however, and he has since been gelded. That might help him, along with the respite he has got from the handicapper, and a return to anything like his early form of 2022 would make him very interesting at a nice price.
Last season’s best efforts were his only two All-Weather runs, the first a win in a valuable conditions race at Chelmsford and the second a close fourth to Checkandchallenge in a Listed contest at Newcastle where they didn’t go quick enough. I can’t see that being a problem here and if he was able to show his real level again, he’d be a player. If he’s not able to, which is possible, he’ll be nowhere. But 14/1 is attractive!
14:40 Wolverhampton – Dhabab – 1pt @ 4/1
Dhabab returned from over a year off the track to win a good quality Lingfield handicap in October and I thought that might kickstart him onto bigger and better things. Connections then sent him up to a mile at Kempton but that ended up being a tactical, four-runner affair in which he was too keen and performed a long way below what he had shown he was capable of on his comeback run.
This is another retrieval mission after a further few months on the sidelines but he’ll be happier at 7f and should at least be able to get some cover on the rail. An optimal racing pace looks unlikely to materialise but they didn’t go that hard at Lingfield either and I think he’ll be fine if he settles. A hood goes on for the first time and if we see him performing to his best, he’ll be in there pitching.
