18:00 Pontefract – Indian Sounds – 1pt @ 4/1
Indian Sounds is edging towards a few years since he was last successful and has regressed by almost a couple of stone from his peak. On the plus side, it means he’s taking in weaker contests than usual and I’m sure he’ll be found a race before long, with this looking a suitable one. Indeed, his stable have won the last four renewals and have shown that they’re ready to hit some form in recent weeks.
Running over the minimum at Ayr didn’t suit this fellow last week, everything happening too quickly for him in a contest where the pace came out on top, and he’ll enjoy this stiffer test. His penultimate outing came over C&D and offered some promise, whilst we’re coming into the time of year when he does best. If he’s on good enough terms with himself, there’s no doubting he should be a player here.

19:10 Windsor – Fernando Rah – 1pt @ 9/1
Fernando Rah is a talented horse who hasn’t got the clearest run at things, only making it to the track on three occasions since January of last year. However, he shaped well on this year’s return in February when second to Tone The Barone at Wolverhampton and I doubt he was completely wound up for that. His run since wasn’t as hot but came over 6f at Kempton and a sharper test is more his want.
Another couple of months off has followed but his last win came on the back of a similar freshening up and we should get to see what he’s truly capable of here provided returning to turf isn’t a problem. He has shown promise on it before, including two half-length defeats over C&D, and is being talked about as a Wokingham runner if all goes to plan. Hopefully he could win this race en route.
20:30 Pontefract – Oso Rapido – 1pt @ 8/1
Oso Rapido has rarely had much help from the handicapper but the grip has been released a shade this season and he’s down to 76 now, 5lbs below last summer’s Catterick success. That’s for good reason as his form hasn’t been great, but I thought there were signs of life at Doncaster last time when he was spotted running on into sixth place after being waited with, something I’m not sure suits.
He’s more of a grinding type who wants to sit near a decent pace and if he can get the position here, he looks likely to also get the speed. He’s a C&D winner (off 1lb higher), so has got no issue with the track and Daniel Tudhope is always a positive booking for the yard. The draw is a worry, as he’s widest of all, but it’s not impossible to win from there and at least he won’t be getting locked up on the fence!
