For today's horse racing tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing meetings at Ascot and Chester, with four selections now online.

13:30 Chester – Wobwobwob – 1pt @ 9/2
Wobwobwob is a very capable handicapper on deep ground and with conditions to suit, he could be ready to post a big effort. He was readily beaten into second by Al Mubhir in a valuable race at Leicester a couple of weeks ago but I think that one is on the lower end of Group-class so it was no disgrace to finish around four-lengths behind and none of these are as far ahead of the handicapper.
A mile at that track would be stiff enough for him as well and Chester’s extended 7f will line up a lot better with his stronger attributes. He has a low weight and, most importantly of all, he’s drawn down in the lowest stall so a fast break will lead to a good racing position on or near the speed. If all goes to plan, he has enough about him to run a big race at worst and may be in the form required to win it.

14:05 Chester – Groundbreaker – 1pt @ 6/1
Groundbreaker brings more of an element of the unknown when compared to the other market principles but I think he has improvement in the locker as a 4-year-old. He has only run twice in handicaps and caught the eye running on from the back in each of those, including behind a trio of Godolphin horses on his final start at 3, doing well considering the position he tried to come from.
A gelding operation since then could help to kick him up a notch and the hood and tongue-tie he has worn in previous starts are now combined for the first time. The underfoot conditions and his fitness are both unknowns, but he won his maiden on the back of a few months off and hopefully it’s not too hard to get him readied at home. If he’s fit and copes with conditions, he has the ability to play a hand.
15:15 Chester – Rajinsky – 1pt @ 14/1
Rajinsky has got nothing hidden from the handicapper but has won two of his four starts since switched to front-running tactics and the two defeats came on the two occasions he ran in Group races. The most recent of those was at Ascot last week behind Coltrane and the ground dried out too much to see him show his true worth, Harry Davies easing off once he had dropped through the field.
Before that, he defeated Trueshan at Nottingham and based on times, the ground was heavy there. Even that is not quite a performance to suggest he can defy 108 – even with Davies claiming 3lbs again – but circumstance could see him step forward and he may end up on the pace in a contest where they don’t go too hard. If he’s still in good form, it might not be as easy to get by him late on.
16:10 Ascot – Bickerstaffe – 1pt @ 10/1
Bickerstaffe hasn’t been seen for over a year and things haven’t gone to plan for him since he was progressing nicely in 2021. However, he won first time up as a juvenile, won on reappearance at 3 and must not have been right last year when he got hammered at Newmarket. Although I’m not certain he likes that track anyway, so even if he was right he probably would have been below-par!
Returning to Ascot is a plus as he’s 2-2 over C&D and one of those was off today’s mark of 95. Granted, that was at a time when things were going well and there weren’t so many questions at play, but he’s still only a 5-year-old and hopefully he has got lots of work in at home. At anything near his best, he’s going to be a threat to all and the early betting hints have been positive so far. 10/1 is worth a punt.
