14:20 Lingfield – Lequinto – 1pt @ 11/2
Lequinto is better than this grade when operating at his best and hinted that he wasn’t far from finding that level over C&D on his penultimate start. He didn’t get a clean run at things, hence the finishing position, but definitely had more in the tank than was able to come out.
Back at 6f in a 0-105 last time, it was a similar story as he got locked up on the fence but I’m not sure he has the pace to deal with sprinting here anyway. He’ll be happier with the extra furlong, this is a major drop in class to a 0-85 and Rossa Ryan is booked to ride for the first time. If luck is forthcoming, I can’t see how he doesn’t get heavily involved and I’d make him 7/2 at most.

19:15 Southwell – Roscioli – 1pt @ 5/1
Roscioli is only 1-20 and has a couple of Timeform squiggles on his record so he’s not one for the life savings, but there’s enough talent in the locker to land one of these 0-70 handicaps off a mark of 69 and all three of his All-Weather runs since a second wind-op have had some form of promise.
He was only beaten just over a length at Kempton last time when fifth in a race where the speed didn’t collapse and on his previous start at Wolverhampton, he ran on well into third and was a length clear of the reopposing Johnny Boom on 7lbs worse terms. He’ll be happy back on tapeta and 1m 3f around here might be perfect for him. 5/1 is fair enough if he finds a way to make use of his class edge.
20:15 Southwell – Big Impact – 1pt @ 12/1
Big Impact went off at 9/2 last time and failed to beat a rival, but that was his first go at 7f and there was no chance he’d ever stay that far. Reverting to a sprint will at least give him a chance of seeing the race out and his sole C&D run on the new surface yielded a neck second off 3lbs higher in November.
He won his next start despite plenty going wrong and hasn’t found that same level again, but shaped with promise over 5f at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start when only beaten a couple of lengths. Ryan Sexton, who was on board that day and for his best efforts this campaign, returns in the saddle and I think he’s on a lively chance at a nice price. I’d be surprised is he’s not single figures soon.
