13:03 Lingfield – Deacs Delight – 1pt @ 12/1

Deacs Delight is yet to get his head in-front but shaped with promise over 7f at Chelmsford on his penultimate start, not helped by his racing position in a contest where those up top weren’t stopping. It looked like he had something to build on after that, then he completely flopped over Kempton’s mile.

However, two days later he had a wind-operation and given he has worn a tongue-tie on multiple occasions, you can only imagine his breathing has been an issue for a while. Today, he goes without any form of headgear and if he can breathe properly now, there’s far more chance of him putting his best foot forward. His career best run came off 13lbs higher, so there are no handicapping issues at play, and he’s entered up again on Monday. Hopefully with a view to running under a penalty!

15:23 Lingfield – Epsom Faithfull – 1pt @ 7/2

Epsom Faithfull has no issue with winning, expertly handled by Pat Phelan to score eight times in her career and six times in the last 18 months. She faced an impossible task on this year’s return in the Listed Kachy Stakes a couple of weeks ago but ran a stormer to grab fifth at 100/1, beaten just over a length.

The 6f test at this track would likely find her out even in handicap company so I’m glad to see her up to 7f now and provided she can find a good rhythm and avoid being keen, she’ll be hard to beat. Keenness has got the better of her before but Rhys Clutterbuck knows exactly how to ride her and hopefully there will be no post-race excuses! She could improve fitness-wise as well and back in handicap company at the longer trip, 7/2 looks fair to me. There’s more in the locker.

15:58 Lingfield – Diamond Bay – 1pt @ 12/1

Diamond Bay looks like he needs further than 1m 4f around here if you look at his record, with Tom Ward spending much of last year campaigning him over two-miles. He stays that trip no problem but his last two tries over this sort of trip were in super competitive affairs and may underrate what he’s capable of.

Previous to those, he bolted up over the mile-and-a-half at Kempton on his first start of 2022, proving he has no issue with being readied to run when fresh. That was a lesser grade but was within a pound of the highest rating he has ever run to and on the sole occasion he lined up at Lingfield, he won (over two-miles but it was a slow pace). I could be barking up the wrong tree in siding with a horse who might be too slow but it’s not definite and the 12/1 quotes make the risk worthwhile for me.

19:30 Newcastle – One Hart – 1pt @ 16/1

One Hart could be worth taking a gamble on here. He’s a big price due to his return from a 282 day layoff being a complete flop when he ran at Wolverhampton last month but he was drawn widest and had an awful trip, stuck on the wing throughout whilst also racing too keenly for his own good.

His last three wins have come over that C&D (7f) but as time has gone by, he seems better suited to what a sprint race provides and almost exactly a year ago to the day he was only beaten three-quarters of a length over 5f here from an 8lb higher mark. He went out of form afterwards but he’s with a very capable handler who will put him on the right road again and this isn’t a bad opportunity in just his second 0-65. His well-being may be an issue but any double-figured price is a play.
