12:55 Lingfield – Murhib – 1pt @ 12/1

Murhib must be one of the oldest sons of Sea The Stars still in training and I think the now 11-year-old is overpriced to gain another win. It’s hard to know exactly where he’s at as he had ten months off the track before returning at Kempton in January and was easily beaten on that occasion.

He had another spin over C&D three weeks ago but got no luck in-running when against the rail and I’m certain there was more in the tank; it definitely offered a few more hints than the comeback effort. He travelled well to the point of the interference and should be another step further forward in his fitness after two runs.

From a ratings point of view, he’s 10lbs below his last success and each of his last four wins, including two here, have come under Robert Havlin. With a good draw to come out of and pace next door, he should get a solid tow on the fence and if the splits arrive, hopefully he might prove up to taking them. I wouldn’t have him in here at any bigger than 8/1 and he’s worth a go at double-figured odds.

13:30 Lingfield – Kimngrace – 1pt @ 16/1

It’s interesting to see Richard Hughes running Kimngrace in this given her mark of 93 and the possibility to exploit it in a turf handicap if she’s as good as she could be based on her York rout in October. The hunt for black-type is obviously appealing but I would presume she is prepped and ready to tackle her toughest test.

The way she bolted up at York was very eye-catching and Neil Callan, on board for the first time that day, returns. Heavy ground and a long season may have caught her out at Doncaster on her final start of 2022 but she always looked the type to make up into an even better 4-year-old and I’m certain there’s a good race in her.

The draw could have been kinder as I’d prefer she was at least a few gates lower down than nine but there should be enough speed on to give the closers a chance of finishing in time to trouble the judge and hopefully the bit of luck needed will be forthcoming. Whatever happens, she’s one to keep in the notebook for a while.

17:00 Lingfield – Arcadian Nights – 1pt @ 13/2

Arcadian Nights could have a good chance if he takes to Lingfield. All of his efforts on the artificial surfaces have been at Kempton and Wolverhampton, most coming at the latter, and he was a good winner under Billy Loughnane on his penultimate start, scoring by almost two-lengths.

He wasn’t so hot a few days later under a penalty but War In Heaven got loose on the lead and bolted up. Given that he won twice since and is now rated 17lbs higher, it wasn’t just tactics that led to that success. The selection was only a couple of lengths off Johnny Boom, who bolted up next time as well, and it wasn’t a bad run by any means despite him finishing as an unplaced favourite.

How well he’ll take to this place is an unknown but Daniel Muscutt being booked catches the eye (2-10 for yard with a further pair of seconds) and his sole effort on the horse was shaping up to be a big one until they had their racing line taken coming down to the final furlong. It’s a pity this race isn’t at Wolverhampton but I’m happy to play at 11/2 or bigger and hope he takes to the track.
