13:45 Lingfield – Meng Tian – 1pt @ 16/1
Meng Tian seems consistent in his level without being able to find extra to really threaten a win. That could be the case again but he drops into this 0-70 bracket for the first time in his career and may have a class edge over the majority of these. Recent efforts have been solid enough as well, suggesting he’s in good order, and he wasn’t beaten far at Chelmsford back down to 7f a few weeks ago.
His previous two runs yielded third placed finishes in races that received some sort of form boost and one of them was at a mile. He hasn’t been fully exposed at the trip and hopefully this test on a speed track will suit. I’m not mad about his draw but it isn’t a huge statistical negative and plenty of the opposition sit back in the field, so a good slot should be attainable. At the prices, he’s worth a dart.

16:45 Lingfield – Dashing To You – 1pt @ 7/2
Dashing To You is 1-17 so doesn’t exactly have the finest of profiles but he’s operating at a low level, has dropped to another career-low mark and has performed well enough to say his turn might be edging closer. His running-style doesn’t help his cause on occasion but three of his last four runs have been solid, with the only disappointment coming when he seemed to hate running at Southwell.
All of the other efforts came here, two at this trip, and he didn’t have an optimal set of circumstances when fourth last time. I’m hoping in this smaller field that the instruction will be to seek a better position rather than cover and give him no excuses. He was prominent for his sole win and the pace is unlikely to be too strong here. Either way, he should have a serious chance of winning at this level.
20:30 Wolverhampton – Hooflepuff – 1pt @ 4/1
Hooflepuff has a fine record here, 8 wins and 4 seconds from 27 outings. His keen-going ways and the nature of All-Weather handicaps has probably cost him another few wins but there should be a reasonable pace on here. That will help to pull him into the race in time, something which didn’t happen over a furlong further last time when he ran on well into a two-length fifth behind Snooze Lane.
Racing keenly didn’t help matters either but I thought it was a promising run that can be built upon now. Jason Hart, on board for the horse’s last two successes in November, returns and he knows exactly what’s required to get Hooflepuff to max out. With the handicapper slowly easing the grip to a more workable rating, he should be in there pitching when the going gets tough. 4/1 looks fair.
