13:40 Doncaster – Two Summers – 1pt @ 11/1
Two Summers has shaped quite well on both starts this season and there are reasons to think she’s better than both suggest. On the first occasion, her track position against the near rail over Redcar’s 6f wasn’t a help, then she tackled Beverley’s extended mile and that was too far. She moved really well for a long time (traded 1.7 in-running) but didn’t have the staying power to see it out up the hill.
The two who beat her last time were held up, whilst she went from the front as usual, and I thought she did well to keep going for as long as she did. The return to 7f will be a help, the ground is perfect for her, and whilst it won’t be simple for those up top to last it out in a big field, she has a light weight and can prove better than a mark of 51. The drift to 11/1 is an overreaction – she’s a big price now.

16:30 Doncaster – My Silent Song – 1pt @ 10/1
My Silent Song is yet to go beyond an extended mile, most likely because she’s a strong traveller who tends to overdo it at times, but she’s by Postponed and out of a mile-and-a-half winner who would have stayed further had she kept racing, so it’ll be interesting to see how she gets on. She should definitely strip fitter for her All-Weather spin three weeks ago, where she was also too fresh.
The handicapper is being generous in dropping her a couple of pounds for that run, as she’s now back on her last winning handicap mark and 2lbs below her Pontefract second at the tail-end of 2022, a run that suggested stamina for further wouldn’t be a problem. Paul Mulrennan, who is 2-2 on board, returns in the saddle and a hood is enlisted for the first time. If all goes to plan, she’ll be involved late.
17:05 Doncaster – Justus – 1pt @ 4/1
Justus was exceptionally easy to back on his seasonal return, which is not what you want to see with one of Ian Williams’ runners as the yard definitely know the time of day, but he showed enough to suggest that we could see better second time up. He made plenty of the running there and ensured a real test on heavy ground, but hindered his own chance as the match-sharpness did not seem to be in place.
He improved at least 10lbs on the back of his last extended break when fourth at York in September and that coincided with the booking of Ben Curtis, who’s back again today. He’s generally a positive booking for Williams and this horse is 6lbs lower than the York outing, so has got no excuses with regard to his rating anyway. I think they’ll go well and can threaten the judge is all pans out to suit.
