14:35 Epsom – Revich – 1pt @ 13/2

Revich is running off a career-high mark aged 7 and last time out winners rarely make that much appeal to me in handicaps (although mainly that is applicable in lower grades!). But the way he won at Chester was very impressive, beating a good horse in the shape of Witch Hunter by three-lengths, and a similar level of performance will see him bang in the mix despite a 6lb rise at the weights. 

Quicker ground isn’t a problem to him, he’s a course winner and his only other start here was in this race last year. On that occasion, nobody could live with Totally Charming but he did best of the remainder, finishing second. Quirky tracks clearly suit him and given that he’s in the form of his life, hopefully he’ll be able to go one better. 13/2 is fair enough and Ryan Moore being booked is a plus.

15:45 Epsom – Dual Identity – 1pt @ 10/1

Dual Identity was hugely progressive last term, improving from 75 to 95 and was unfortunate not to win the Cambridgeshire en route, his track position not helping (beat his side comfortably; finished third overall). Things haven’t gone to plan in three runs since, two of them coming this season, but he’s back to a mark of 92 – 1lb above his Newmarket run – and that’s definitely workable.

I thought he shaped better when fourth behind the reopposing Honiton a couple of weeks ago, just beaten a couple of lengths in a race that didn’t pan out to suit from a pace perspective. He’s a really good mover so the slow-slow-sprint tempo of smaller fields doesn’t suit and this time around, he’s likely to find things going his way. If the track is to his liking (sole run was in a novice), he’ll go close.

17:45 Epsom – Darkness – 1pt @ 20/1

Darkness will get one final chance from me. I’ve backed him the last twice, firstly in the Victoria Cup where he didn’t travel as he can and then again at Ayr ten days ago. The pace was sedate but, more importantly, he was positioned too far back in the field to have any chance of involvement on a speedy track. I’m inclined to forgive, forget and hope that there could be better forthcoming soon.

David O’Meara’s horses haven’t been going along that well this season anyway but there will come a point when they bounce back and this fellow is a couple of pounds below his excellent reappearance second at Redcar. He shaped well in today’s race last year (had no chance given how it panned out) and if those up top don’t get away – as they can at this track, too – he might show his true worth again.
