13:50 Brighton – Liangel Hope – 1pt @ 10/1
Liangel Hope returns following a break so I’m guessing with regard to fitness, but hopefully he’ll be tuned up. He had a productive 2022, winning twice for David O’Meara before being claimed by Christopher Mason and landing two handicaps in August. Things didn’t go as well afterwards but he did shape nicely in defeat on his final couple of starts, not beaten far at Leicester and Wolverhampton.
He’s on the exposed side, like many of these, but is only a 4-year-old and it’s not impossible that there’s a bit more to come. The handicapper has eased him back to his last winning mark of 74, which is a big help, and I just hope they’ll make plenty of use of him on this track. 7f here may be a shade on the speedy side but it could work out and the price on offer is a few points bigger than I’d have him.

16:00 Yarmouth – Dashing Dick – 2pts @ 4/1
Dashing Dick has course form reading 3-2-1-3-4 and hasn’t had the opportunity to race here since August of 2021. William Stone’s horses tend to like it here by default, the yard running at a 20% strike-rate in the past five seasons (11-54) and hopefully we’ll get to see this fellow bounce back to his best, something he definitely needs to do having flopped in a Leicester handicap a few weeks ago.
He was bidding to win that race for the second year in a row but the ground was horrible and he wasn’t happy from an early stage, beaten a long way out. Today’s surface should help to see him in a far better light and before that flop he had been in solid form on the All-Weather, not beaten far by some talented types at Lingfield on his previous start. Up to a mile, we might see his true worth again.
16:55 Brighton – Mcqueen – 1pt @ 17/2
Mcqueen will have no fitness problems having been on the go through the winter and the risk with him lies in how suited he’ll be to sprinting for the first time. It’s an interesting switch for one who has gone well over as far as an extended 1m 1f but I think it’s worth a shot as he’s often spotted overdoing it through the early part of his races, which is definitely taking something away from him at the end.
He showed he was bang in form when third over Chelmsford’s mile two starts ago, then dropped to 7f at that track last time and couldn’t make inroads into a pace that wasn’t stopping. Early on at least, he’s likely to enjoy the tempo of today’s contest and if it doesn’t take him out of his comfort zone (blinkers returning may help), we could see a better finishing effort. If we do, 8/1 is worth a shot.
