16:55 Redcar – Antagonize – 1pt @ 10/1
Antagonize was one of my last time out selections when he finished last at Beverley and has only managed to beat two horses home on his three starts this season. He was previously quite consistent despite his keen-going ways and it’s easy to understand if his supporters have been pushed off the cliff, but the heavy ground at Nottingham excuses him of that run and last time was a write-off.
That was due to him missing the break, pulling very hard under restraint and then he rushed himself up to go prominent as they were turning. If he repeats those tricks, there’ll be a similar end result, but he’s down in grade to a 0-60 for the first time in almost two years and his last run at this level yielded a win. Should things pan out favourably, he can make his presence felt on the faster surface.

19:55 Nottingham – Laheg – 1pt @ 5/1
Laheg is quite talented and the handicapper is giving him a chance in dropping him to 83, 1lb below his neck defeat at Lingfield in March. Granted, that was on the All-Weather and his trainer’s horses tend to be better on an artificial surface, but I thought he shaped with some promise when dropped to 5f for the first time in a valuable race at Hamilton, finishing seventh but only beaten 2.5-lengths.
He travelled well, something he often does, and sometimes he travels too strongly, but once let down he couldn’t go on. It’s possible a flatter track will play more to his strengths and blinkers are used for the first time, which are another potential source of improvement. Despite the small field, there are a couple who should lead him at a nice pace and if he can produce his best, he’s a big player.
